This series continues to be a wonderful, interesting, well written and fascinating character driven Sci-Fi masterpiece that is reminiscent of the old Sci-Fi TV shows, each book being another episode (or more like half a season really!) Although it does follow Captain Tanner Scott as the main character, there are so many other characters and side stories to make this an utterly fascinating and brilliant series. Each book is a self-contained storyline that involves the main characters, but each book continues the series on.
Rudnick writes so well about the personal lives of his characters, their internal psychology and thoughts, making this such a captivating read. He also has such a creative mind for developing his Alien species, different planets and environments, and the various trials, incidents and mishaps the characters get into.
This particular book follows Tanner as he struggles to complete the Eons Academy on time, whilst dealing with everybody who is trying to get something done for their own agenda's. At the same time, he is still trying to rectify issues with the Lady, and rescue his career. This one has a lot less action in it, but seems to have a bit more humour and is more character driven than some of the others. It is still very well written and incredibly talented.
My only complaint might be that there were a couple of occasions in which some bits seemed a bit repeated where different characters remembered similar things, but in an almost identical way. I did wonder if I was re-reading a page at one stage.
If you are new to this Genre, Start with Rudnick, you will not regret it. And if you have been already started this series, then this is well worth the read!!
