When the story begins, Ur is a 9 year old boy, eager to have his first kill and be declared a man to the rest of his tribe. After he fails that test of manhood, Ur is cast out of his tribe and wishes for their death. That night, he meets the Eves and the Delves, his tribe is destroyed, and his path is set on a road drenched with blood.
When the book begins it's told from the perspective of a 9 year old boy, and the writing is simple. If Ur doesn't understand a thing, he describes it. As he grows older, the writing becomes more sophisticated. There weren't very many grammatical errors, not enough to be bothered by. There is very graphic and explicit violence so if that bothers you, definitely check out something else, this is a very dark novel. It was difficult at times to root for Ur, he was very much a flawed hero. I'll keep an eye out for other books by this author.
