This is okay, but my favorite is the venison, no gamey flavor, many of the others taste too sweet to me, and didn't like the beef, at all. I'll stick with the venison bars. These have sea salt, and I'm okay with that, but in case you don't like really salty things, (which I do,) these are very salty to taste. Sea salt provides a lot of minerals, which is nice, but they are high on the salty scale, even for me. Still, I found when I have a craving for a bag of potatoe chips, (salty) these help me say no. The venison bar is the least sweet bar in the pack. I am not a fan of bars in general, am very picky when it comes to a bar. These do the trick in terms of a high protein snack, esp. if you have to wait for a meal and or have blood sugar issues.
While I love all the new foods I've tried via amazon(I serch for healthy alternatives that I don't have to run all over town to get). This I think is my new favorite. It's expensive, but I'll pack one for post workout. If your not a fan of lamb, it's maybe not for you-the lamb flavor specifically, that is. Being a big lamb lover, I don't find this particularly game-y as other have said. Nor do,I find it overly fatty for lamb, lamb can be notoriously fatty in some cuts, this isn't that either. Again, you no like lamb, no eat it! Loved all three combos. Keep this for the grown up table, if you eat off the kids menu and have a child palette, don't do it. If you are an eater with a sense of adventure (and a heafty wallet), go for it. My daughter, never having ordered off the kids menu, loves it too.
Buying these was a whim. I liked the idea of 100% Grass fed Beef, Turkey, Lamb and Bison. The Beef, Habernero, Cherry bar has a great flavor with minor heat. The Bison and Lamb both have a gamey taste I can't place, the Turkey is good too. My only complaint is the texture. I expected a bit dryer tougher texture like jerky. Instead the texture is closer to the Slim Jim's and other meat based sticks.
I tried these and prefer the Tanka bars. These have a lot of spices. I love the Tanka original bars/sticks. Surprisingly, I found that the Epic lamb went down the easiest. The Turkey has an almost curry like taste. Which for a snack is rather off-putting. I like the ingredients and nutrition facts, but will probably be sticking to Tanka. If these come as a stick, I would consider giving these another try. I'm not sure why these weren't a hit for me... I really wanted to like them.
Despite the packaging, these actually taste really processed. They feel really greasy in your mouth. Even the flavors that contain nuts feel like eating greasy mush. I was kind of expecting there to be some chopped nuts, dried meat, and dried fruit. This is all heavily processed together to give a practically uniform texture.
The flavors are okay. Nothing to write home about. They mostly taste like salty meat and dried fruit. The Lamb and Mint bar tastes like pepperoni and raw mint leaf. It was very weird.
I really enjoyed these. I follow a paleo/primal diet and these seem to fit well into the diet. It's often times tough to have convenient on-the-go snacks on a primal diet so these were great. I don't really care for the lamb/currant flavor but I liked all the others in this variety pack. Super convenient to throw in my laptop bag for work and carry around, or to carry in a gym bag. I'd recommend checking these out if you're looking for a low carb, decent protein snack to get you through those times where you just need a quick snack.
the turkey flavor is not my favorite. I like the beef with habanero peppers; my spouse likes lamb #1, and bison #2. all the epic bars I /we have tried are greasy enough to be moist but not oily, and meaty and chewy but not tough as jerky at all. these are excellent for lunch protein, travel really well and are not overly salty. of course, that is a very personal taste. one could easily add salt if one preferred more.
Epic is such an excellent company and they make quality products without a bunch of junk added in. My husband eats the hell out of these and they can be taken anywhere. You can get your necessary protein in on the run. We are frequent buyers of the variety pack.
