So, I rarely give five-star "I love it" reviews, but I already love this little grinder.
... No, liek, you don't understand. I'm planning to propose this afternoon. Expect invitations in the mail. o.O
Goofinz-off aside, I'm thrilled with this purchase. I actually didn't buy it for coffee, so this review should help to illustrate its diversity as a grinding tool. I'm beginning a practice of making my own incense (maybe to sell later, but for now just for me,) and needed something to save me from the painstaking, time-consuming, arm-obliterating manual labor of pulverizing large quantities of herbs. When you make incense from powder, you learn quickly that a *true* powder comes slow (it might take me two days to get one full cup of Eucalyptus powder, for instance) and a great deal of it gets used-up very quickly. So, as much as I love the old-worldsy appeal of sitting around grinding-away with my Mortar & Pestle, I was going to need to outsource at least some of the work to something a little more high-tech. Honestly the first thing that came to mind was "buy a ninja-blender." However, my best friend gave me the advice to look for something made to grind coffee beans, so I found this.
At first, I was a little wary of the 20-second rule on the label. It seems like it ought to be too short a time to accomplish anything (even my extra-spiffeh blender takes 45 seconds to completely homogenize my smoothie ingredients...) but actually, this blender got most of the things I've tried in it so far. It got one cup each of Bay and White Sage leaves down to a super-fine powder in approximately 10 seconds. I also threw some Eucalyptus leaves in along with broken-down stems, and found that even the stems were nicely rendered (although that took more two rounds of 20-second grinding.) Next, I think I'll try some Palo Santo (but definitely do a little pre-blender breaking/snapping on those first) and some whole Cloves.
Apparently a lot of people buy a separate brush with which to clean this, but I've found the one with which it came to be sufficient so-far. What I'll also do is remove the cup from the appliance, add a little 70% Isopropryl and some hot water, and swish those around inside to break-down and shake-loose the chemical compounds from whatever's been inside it so it doesn't leave a scent or contaminate future projects, and then quick-dry the inside with paper towel (or a dishcloth, when I've got a clean one.)
So far, I've had no problems, and would definitely say Epica has earned the "epic" in their name with this appliance. I will probably come back to update this, whether it's because I've found a flaw or to add more to the list of materials I've ground with it.

*Update - I have been using my grinder to powder some twigs from Birch and Eucalyptus, both of which had been thoroughly dehydrated and clipped-down with wire-cutters first. I'm finding the three 20-second bursts are *almost* enough to create a fine powder from <1/4" chunks of woody stem like that, leaving only small slivers of what are clearly still wood. However, I'm sure if I'd just let it cool for five minutes and then given it another 20-40 seconds, it would've been all the way done. Very impressive. This is going to be very handy as I make base materials for my incenses.

This is the perfect coffee grinder!! I avoided buying a new one for the longest time because all of mine ended up dying or being such a hassle. I love that the cup comes out so you can just pick it up and dump out the coffee into your coffee maker or french press.. This makes it so easy to clean, and much easier to use. I used to have the one where you had to unplug it and pick up the entire grinder to dump it, which got annoying. After having that one-piece kind, I tried getting a hand-grinder, but that was way too much work if you're just trying to grind up a quick batch before work. I love that with the epica grinder, if you wanted to grind something other than coffee, you can easily wash the cup without worrying about keeping the electrical components dry. I'm a big fan, and definitely recommend this coffee grinder.Update: it did burn out after 11 months of use so I am buying a second one. I wish they would have a safety mechanism to shut itself off before it overheats, so once it cools down it will work again. I think the threshold for overheating got more sensitive overtime. It was slightly overfilled one time, ran for maybe ten seconds twice, then it stopped working and never worked again (directions say you can run for 20 seconds straight and up to 60 seconds total before it needs to be cooled down).So, word of advice: be very gentle and overly cautious, don’t fill at all over the line: better to be obviously under it, and make sure to feel the sides to make sure it’s not hot.Second update: We have been pretty cautious now on this second one, and it has lasted us so far for at least another several months. Still love the great design and good shape for storage. We use it to make cold brew at home all the time!

Update: it did burn out after 11 months of use so I am buying a second one. I wish they would have a safety mechanism to shut itself off before it overheats, so once it cools down it will work again. I think the threshold for overheating got more sensitive overtime. It was slightly overfilled one time, ran for maybe ten seconds twice, then it stopped working and never worked again (directions say you can run for 20 seconds straight and up to 60 seconds total before it needs to be cooled down).
So, word of advice: be very gentle and overly cautious, don’t fill at all over the line: better to be obviously under it, and make sure to feel the sides to make sure it’s not hot.
Second update: We have been pretty cautious now on this second one, and it has lasted us so far for at least another several months. Still love the great design and good shape for storage. We use it to make cold brew at home all the time!
