Dr. Handrahan’s data on child pornography and child sexual abuse is a monumental achievement. It is also one that should certainly have been carried out by our agencies, by those who are allegedly responsible for getting critical information like this to the public. It is glaringly evident that special interests everywhere have dominated academic research, suppressing the collection of reliable, viable, information about pornography's hams to our children and the harms children thereby face every day.
Another reader has urged "Congressional hearings, corporate action, and greater parental awareness" based on Dr. Hanrahan's book. It is my experience that what ever administration is in charge at any given time, it remains critical for the public to make its demands known.
We have long been aware that pornography, allegedly soft, would become "hard" soon enough. And that clearly, this would lead to a demand for child pornography and therefore even to infant pornography which always, yes always, means rape and torture.
There can be no consent to a child's use in a pornographic video or pictures, This is always torture and rape. Dr. Hanrahan has done the requisite work to establish these terrible facts.
I completely agree with Sgt. Pickering that Dr. Hanrahan has tackled and indeed exposed the "epidemic that is destroying our country.". It is absolutely critical that Dr.Handrahan's "thorough and meticulous" data and book must be now used as a legislative resource. The violence against our children has taken a horrible, inexcusable toll for many decades. This is an issue of highest political and social priority.
Considering the spiraling nature of the #MeToo victims coming forward day after day, it is critical that we understand how many children, many more children, stand as victims as well. How many children have died due to their victimization, their sexual #MeToo victimization!
The nation needs a moratorium on all pornography. This book, perhaps more than anything else, establishes that need. A five-year moratorium on all pornography with pre-and post data on child sexual abuse to investigate the role of pornography in that abuse. We can do no less.
Thank you Dr. Hanrahan. We all owe you debt of gratitude.
