I Love Epiphone

I have had many over the years, this one is no different. Beautifully made (in Korea) nice sound, mellow jazzy (as it should be). The one I bought was used, 2006 and had aged well. The electronics are nice for the price. I know many who upgrade the pickups, but to start, it's not necessary. I really like the tuners, small, but easy to use and pretty descent on get the strings tuned accurately. They are tight, no play as some cheap ones have.
These are becoming more and more popular, if you have the cash, grab one!

A beautiful guitar, and just the right size. However, it would not stay in tune and the POTS sometimes would not work at all, and sometimes would just suddenly start to work. I sent it back and after my last couple of experiences wit Epiphone I would not buy another until their quality control is seriously upgraded.

the build quality is better than the Epiphone Dot series

I don't know a whole lot about electric guitars. However, I picked this one out at a traditional bricks and mortar retailer that will remain nameless. In any case, the build quality is better than the Epiphone Dot series. This guitar looks great and has very nice looking retro hardware. To me the construction and finishing seems impeccable. I definitely has a "ringing" tone and it will feedback if you turn the amp up too high. I have decided to embrace the feedback.

An absolute joy to play...

I have owned my Epiphone Casino now for nearly ten years, and this powerhouse of an instrument is still the most comfortable guitar to play that I own. The neck is comfortable and doesn't require long fingers to play, the guitar is light and doesn't get heavier throughout the night, and it has a vibe all it's own.
One bonus is that since this is a full hollow body guitar, playing it unplugged while practicing sounds like an acoustic guitar! You don't get that from a solid body.

The only hardware that I upgraded was the bridge to a tuneomatic....the original one would occasionally buzz....now it's pristine, and sounds better with each passing year. No wonder why John lived his so much.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Okay Guitar.. Not Worth Pricetag

I bought an Epiphone Casino a few years back when I was first learning to play guitar, more because I liked "The Beatles" than because I knew what I was doing.

I haven't had the terrible experiences the two "one star" reviewers noted.. I think the guitar looks good and is solidly constructed, but all in all I don't think this guitar is good enough to merit the $600 price tag.

I've had trouble with the bridge for years (it rattles like no other). I messed around with it myself, then I took it to my local music store to have it set up professionally. No dice, still rattles. I have since learned Casinos are notorious for shipping with low quality rattly bridges. For $600 bucks an instrument should play well right out of the box. I'm not expecting it to be as nice as a $2000 Gibson, but jeez, how much could they possibly save by shipping it with a crappy bridge? $20?

I left it at home when I went off to college, but now that I've graduated I've resolved to get it in playable condition (it has sentimental value at this point, lots of pictures of me playing it with my friends in high school). Some people say replace the pickups, but I'm just going to replace the bridge, the pickups are fine. For what it's worth, it's about six years old now and I haven't had any problems with the electronics or pickups or anything other than the bridge. It seems solidly put together, I think Epiphone just got stingy with the components.

Take home message: After reading a lot of positive reviews that don't reflect my experience, I think a lot of people like the Casino more because it looks like a guitar used by The Beatles and The Kinks and other famous bands than because it's a quality instrument. Knowing then what I know now I'd steer clear of Epiphone entirely. Get a similarly priced Gretsch, or save up for a Gibson.

If you want a prop for your Beatles cover band, sure, get the Casino. If you want a decent guitar, keep looking.

EDIT: Since posting this review, I have mostly fixed my Casino. I swapped out the bridge for an aftermarket Gotoh, filed down the nut, and adjusted the pickups as well. I really like how it plays and sounds now, and would recommend this guitar to anyone willing to pay a little money to have it upgraded, or to learn how to fix it yourself. That said, since Epiphone quality is so inconsistent, I would recommend buying your future Casino in person where you can play and inspect it first. Also, just toss the pick guard, it's junk and it rattles. I'd give the out-of-the-box Casino a "C+" and the upgraded Casino a B+/A-

The Epiphone Casino was nicely packed and after opening and a 20 minute inspection for imperfections I was left with just admiration. First job was to change the string from the 10's fitted to a set of 09's which as most know, most players job after buying a new guitar, it has always bewildered my as to why 10's are always fitted as very few people tolerate them preferring super light gauge. A few adjustment for my own liking it was time for a polish, there was some discoloration to the silver hardware due to the amount of time it was in stock, no problem though it was soon remedied with a good lemon cleaner and now looks fabulous.
The fact that the guitar is an Epiphone original in effect with no Gibson model, I feel this made the decision to buy it very easy, unlike the fact that I purchased an Epiphone SG a couple of weeks back which I am also very pleased with!!!
The whole construction of the Casino is spotless, beautiful to look at and a real pleasure to hold and play, same goes for the hardware other that what I mentioned earlier, the tuners surprised me as the tuning was so easy and the guitar staying in tune for some time even though the strings were new.
Regarding the description presented showing the Epiphone Casino Coupe's this is not a Coupe as some have been confused by, it is a full size Casino only noticeable on the pictures by the amplifier jack input showing on the side pictures next to the original description at the top of the page. Although in reality the Coupe is cheaper in price and smaller bodied model looks very similar it is quite a lot smaller than the full Epiphone Casino and at Musik Produktiv GmbH's low price of £439 it's easy to get confused.

All in all this is a beautiful instrument and it is easy to see why the Beatles purchased these all those years ago and although the build was slightly different the latest issues are, in my view, still capable of producing all those sounds and tones with the right settings applied. If you are a Beatles lover, Oasis or other 90's type indie group lover then don't hesitate in buying one of these, you won't be disappointed!!

I don’t really like buying guitars without trying them first but decided to treat myself , made in China the build is very good , low action, took me over 10 minutes to find one slight flaw in the finish, otherwise perfect and for the money, this guitar is as good as I could ever had hoped for, arrived slightly out of tune but tuners seemed of good quality though I may change to heavier strings when I need new ones. No regrets.

I bought this as a 'special' Christmas present for my 18-year-old son. He knew he was getting a guitar but had no idea exactly what. He was stunned when he opened the box and first saw it. It took him 10 minutes before he even touched it! I had to remind him it is a musical instrument not a piece of art to be looked at and admired, although there is certainly an element of the latter as it is beautifully crafted and meticulously finished. The set up out of the box is near spot on. After a few weeks of playing around with it, his verdict is that it is exceptionally versatile and can be played in almost all musical styles and genres, including his favourites, Indy, rock and funk, except for extreme heavy metal but then if you want to play Slipknot and Metallica you wouldn't purchase this guitar. He's delighted with it, so I'm delighted with my purchase.
