From the Manufacturer

“Coupe” Sized Casino

The Casino Coupe is the legendary Casino reborn in an ES-339 body size, a super slick “coupe” version of the legendary hollowbody that since 1961 has been a favorite of tone connoisseurs including Keith Richards, The Beatles, and Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr. The new Epiphone Casino Coupe has all of the Casino’s trademark tone features including neck size, tonewoods, and pickups, but in a “Coupe” size for easy travel. Now you can play the legendary archtop in a smaller size without a smaller sound.

Body and neck

The body and top are made from 5-layer laminated Maple in a Natural finish with single layer ivory binding on the top and back. The Mahogany hand-set neck has the classic 24.75” scale with a 1960s SlimTaper shape. The SlimTaper profile is patterned after prime vintage models.

Pickups and electronics

Like the original Casino, the Casino Coupe has full-size, full power “dogear” P-90s. The P-90, which was first introduced by Gibson Brands in 1948, is simply the best sounding single coil pickup to be found. With a full rounded tone, the P-90 is the “all purpose” pickup, capable of sharp lead tones, clean rhythm punch, and gritty, easily controllable feedback. And combined with the pure hollowbody of the Coupe, a guitarist can achieve almost acoustic tones at low volume.

Hardware

The Coupe carries Epiphone’s heavy duty ¼” non-rotating nickel input jack, all nickel hardware, a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and a “Coupe”-sized Trapeze tailpiece.

Protective case

A hard case is available.

So many reviews of instruments base their opinions based on quality vs. cost. Though that is fair enough, I prefer to tell you about this instrument quality and that the price simply makes this affordable to put into your collection with no regrets. This is simply a wonderful instrument that is affordibly priced! Beautifully crafted, visibly stunning with nice electronics. Love the P90 pickups which have a nice warm tones. Fun to play. Set up really well here in the US prior to shipping to final destination. Tune it up - then turn it up to find the perfect harmonic balance of your amp's output and the natural resonence of the guitar and you're in heaven baby!

If there were one area I wish were different, I wish the fret board were deeper/darker. Please, it's time to let Epiphone off the hook and comparing them to Gibsons which cost 4x as much. Are they 4x better? IMHO, nope. I'm proud to own, play and display the EPIPHONE label on my guitars (I own two now and love their quality, tone and playability).

I'm a "happy camper" .. this is a players guitar.. sound is sweet with an edge.. Perfect for the type blues I pick/slide. There was a perk I didn't count on.. that is, how great it sounds with a slide.. Puts ya' right in the Delta or on Maxwell Street. The neck is pretty fast, this sounds counter productive but I had to raise the bridge some. The size may surprise you its maybe a bit bigger the a Les Paul. Very comfortable weight. Since I have sold off some pretty high end amps and guitars, I thought I would try the other end of the spectrum.. I bought 2 Kustom Defenders (5 watts) and with a Y chord made the connect to them both. Speakers.. 1 Kustom 12' 18 ohms and 1 12' 18 ohms ceramic vintage Jensen Seems as if some don't have good luck with a Y chord but, no noise here. The Kustoms are so basic (1 12AX7 + EL84, with only a volume) my entire idea of aspects of playing the guitar has radically changed. When I use a less then high end guitar you can dial in your guitar so it sounds like a different guitar.. I have always noticed that most high end guitars always have there signature sound. Not a bad thing if that's what you want, my catalog of tunes are from Robert Johnson to early BB King I need a variety of sound. The Casino and the Kustom amps are a great marriage. I have been a guitarist for a long time, not the best around but this Casino really helps out the cause. Sounds great, plays great, built well and it looks pretty cool (sunburst) ..

NOTE: This review is for the Chinese-made model of the Casino (which retails for about 500-600 USD). The Korean models are by all accounts a little better in quality.

I saw this guitar in a local shop and was immediately taken with it. Why? Because to those who know about guitars, the Casino's reputation precedes it. Most famously used by the Beatles, it (and its Gibson counterpart, the ES-330) has also been used by many famous guitarists from vastly disparate genres--from Grant Green's famous Blue Note jazz albums, to songsmith Elliott Smith's amazing live show, to indie rockers Interpol.

So the Casino has a reputation to maintain. However, those musicians all used vintage 60s-era guitars; how would a modern, Chinese-made, polyurethane-finished replica hold up? The answer is: surprisingly well!! As soon as I picked it up, I noticed the neck is fat and fills my whole hand (I am a fan of fat necks). The frets are a bit on the small side, but not too small for me. I strummed a few chords and was again impressed. This thing was just so full of resonance; the full hollowbody construction allows the entire guitar to vibrate and the unplugged sound is surprisingly loud. I plugged it into a small solid state amp and played it for about ten minutes. Wow. The sound was bright, but with meatiness and authority--the P-90s really shine in this guitar.

However, its budget price is an indicator that compromises and shortcuts were taken during its construction and factory setup.

I bought my Epiphone Casino about five years ago. I was orignally attracted to the cosmetics, and it was a cheaper, thinner, hollowbody.

THere's a surprising range of tone you can get out of those two P-90s. The feel was great too. Had a real low action. Honestly, I never had a problem with the guitar, though if the inpur jack were to fall in the body... or a pot... well, you can imagine the nightmare that would be. Never happened in the five years I owned my Casino.

The only downside to this guitar is that the combination of P-90s and hollowbody doesn't stand up too well to high-gain music. If that's your style, beware; this guitar will feedback.

I've owned my casino for around 8 years now. She puts out those rich warm tones that only guitars in the gibson family can give. The only trouble I've had so far is the electronic. The pots and toggle switch have needed to be replaced, but from what I've been told that is fairly common for semi-hollow body guitars. If I had to choose any one of my guitars to keep and give away the rest, she'd be the one i held on to.
