Product Description

If you want all SG looks and tone but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, the G-310 from Epiphone is your best bet. Reach all the upper frets on a carved '67 style SG Mahogany body with a Mahogany neck, and Rosewood fretboard. The killer classic tone comes from a pair of red-hot 700T and 650R open-coil Humbucker pickups, surrounded by the full '67 style pickguard. But wait, there's more! The sustain is even greater thanks to Epiphone's LocTone hardware with locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece.

From the Manufacturer

Epiphone G-310

Based on the Classic 1967 Gibson SG

Since Epiphone introduced the G-310 over 15 years ago, it has been the go-to instrument for those wanting real SG tone and styling at an economical price. Every serious player wants an SG, and here's a real one that sounds as good as it looks. The original SG not only rivaled guitars of its own era for sonic variety, but also proved to be a sign of things to come. Hard rock, metal, and scores of rockers embraced the original SG and made it a classic. The G-310 gives you the sound and look of a real SG without the vintage price tag.

The SG Story

When the SG or "Solid Guitar" was introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the Les Paul, it was called the "fretless wonder" for its low frets and fast action. The twin horn cutaway design was like nothing on the market and its light but balanced weight made it the perfect guitar for stage and studio. Since then, the SG has gone on to become the go-to guitar for artists like The Who's Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Paul Weller, AC/DC's Angus Young, and Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band.

Vintage-Style Mahogany Body

The G-310 uses the same dimensions and build techniques as vintage SGs made in the Kalamazoo factory in the '60s. The '67 style solid tone rich mahogany carved body gives the guitar a balanced feel on stage and in the studio (unlike cheap imitations that tend to be neck-heavy). The SlimTaper "D" profile mahogany neck has a 24.75" scale with 22 frets and a 12" radius for incredible reach thanks to the SG's classic cutaway. And for that one-of-a-kind SG feel, the G-310 has a rosewood fingerboard with a 1.68" nut.

Alnico Humbuckers

Epiphone always finds a way to make subtle but important improvements on classic designs and the G-310 is no exception. The G-310's power comes from special red-hot open-coil humbuckers with Alnico magnets featuring a 650R humbucker in the neck position and a 700T humbucker in the bridge position for killer classic tone with modern punch.

Epiphone Hardware You Can Trust

Epiphone leads the way in manufacturing in making great sounding guitars for players of all levels and that goes for great hardware, too. Epiphone provides quality all-metal hardware on all its instruments including full function volume and tone knobs using full-size 500K O potentiometers matched with Epiphone's rugged all-metal 3-way toggle pickup selector switch for long-lasting performance.

The G-310 features a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece which yields incredible sustain and premium die-cast tuners for lifetime security. The G-310 comes in two classic colors, Ebony and Red.

About Epiphone

Epiphone is one of American's oldest and most revered instrument makers and since 1873, Epiphone has made instruments for every style of popular music. The name evokes both history and the spirit of invention. Epiphone has been an audible presence in every great musical era from the mandolin craze of the early 1900s to jazz age guitars of the 1920s. From swing-era archtops through post-war pop, jazz, R&B, and early rock n' roll. From the "British Invasion" to heavy metal, punk, grunge, and thrash. And now, in the 21st century, new Epiphone technical breakthroughs such as the ProBucker pickup, series parallel switching, built-in KillSwitch pots, the Shadow NanoFlex and NanoMag pickup systems, and premier acoustic/electric guitars with the eSonic preamp have brought the historic name to a new generation.

For the money that I had paid for this guitar I didn't really expect much. But when it was delivered and I opened the box I was surprised. The finish was absolutely beautiful (ebony). But what good are the looks if it doesn't play well. After tuning it up and tightening the input jack I gave it a whirl. WOW. Though the humbuckers are not as good as on the Gibsons, they held their own. After stretching the stock strings, they didn't go out of tune. I believe that the bolt on neck had plenty of sustain even though the neck is not a set one. I know that the G-310 I bought is an excellent example. If you buy an example like mine, you will have a fine guitar for very little money. Hey, I might buy another!

This is my 1st guitar. Im learning to play on it per a recommendation of a friend. It is amazing! It is beautiful, sounds amazing, easy to play (in less than a week ive already learned 1 song, smoke on the water (easy i know but hey, im new to this :P). When reading a few reviews online on other sites i saw someone say it doesn't stay in tune. This from my experience is not true. I tuned it 1 time and it is still tuned after 5 days of playing every day. A tip to anyone thinking about picking up a 1st time guitar, get good picks. I bought some really thin cheep picks thinking it wouldn't make a difference, then tried a thicker better pick, and played so much better.

I dont know if this holds true for all guitars, but it came pre strung and ready to play right out of the box. It also comes with a cable to the amp out of the box. It does not however come with picks or a strap. If you are new to guitars or just wanting a good value guitar, get this one. It is awesome! (and it comes with a life time warranty!)

I haven't played a guitar since I was in High School, and all I knew was the major chords back then. 40 years have gone by and I really wanted to pick it up again and really learn this time. After seeing the ads for RockSmith, I decided that this was the ticket for me as a learning tool so now I need an axe. My friend back then had a '56 Gibson SG that played so nicely that you didn't even get sore fingers since the pressure required for perfect tone was nearly zero. I wasn't going to spend that kind of dough though, so I thought this may suffice. Let me say that when I opened the box I was truly impressed with the fit and finish of this guitar, there is a little rub mark from the box on the back but it should buff out. So I just finished tuning/intonation, and string height adjustments and this thing is just as good as I remember my buddies Real SG was. I am very happy, and just as proud of this 250 dollar guitar as I would be of a much more expensive Gibson, this thing rocks. I did immediately put a set of Ernie Ball SuperSlinky strings on it as that is what I played with in High School and everything about this guitar is absolutely amazing and looks like I spent a fortune on it. Such value for so little is hard to come by these days but this Epiphone is a real example of how things get better and cheaper over time. Highly recommend and if you don't know how to tune and set intonation just look it up on the web, you wont be happy with a 5000 dollar guitar if it isn't tuned and adjusted right.

This is EASILY the best guitar I've ever owned. The sound was so good for a bolt-on neck. My Epiphone LP-100 is a very close 2nd.

They BOTH beat out the Squier Standard Strat I used to have (which was complete JUNK). Even my old Charvelle Charvette doesn't compare.

The SG-310 is NOT a practice guitar! It can take whatever you throw at it and will survive the road.

Unfortunately, the one I had came with bad electronics so I ended up with the LP-100.

BUT...for the month I had it, it was really a great experience, until the electronics went crazy.

I WILL be buying another one. I actually prefer the 310 over the 400 (which has the set-neck).

Oh, yeah...with 38 years fret time, I'm definitely no newbie.

For the price, this really IS an incredible guitar.

Ya dig?

Nuff said.

I played this guitar for about a year. It's a beautiful guitar with a nice glossy finish. It's also nice to be able to control the volume of the pickups separately for cool effects, something most electrics can't do. In terms of playability the frets might be a bit large for total beginners but nevertheless it plays fantastic and sounds great. Well worth your money.
