After suffering a less than glowing reception for their India Special Top Gear came back guns blazing! It was a solid season about cars - and just enough of the fluff that we love to make it entertaining - but not TOO sweet! My problem is - after being an avid TG head for several years now and making the sizeable investment into their Blu Ray offerings - BBC has decided NOT to release this season in BR. I'm disappointed - and by the chatter on the net - I'm not the only one. TG is visually a treat for the eyes - it's truly beautiful to behold. And the quality of the BR picture only showcased the talents of the hosts and the incredible production team. I will wait to purchase in the hopes that the BBC comes to their senses and releases this season - along with those to come - in the high quality BR format.

There just is no other way to state it. The chemistry between Hammond, May, & Clarkson is invaluable and irreplaceable. The show itself is the bar of all automotive related shows that come after. If your production is not taking some sort of influence from this show, you have missed the mark. The camera equipment & techniques of this show rival stunt sequences in any major film. It clearly has affected my life in positive ways.

Season 18 of Top Gear begins with the India Special as the trio travel across India to promote the U.K. As always, almost everything that could possibly go wrong does go wrong. But in a comical way in Top Gear tradition. Then series continues with 7 more episodes that include: filming a car chase for a movie, a look at China's car industry, a Supercar trip to Italy, a test of Track cars, a look at Chris Evan's collection of Ferraris, Richard's foray into NASCAR and much more. The celebrity interviews in this season include Matt LeBlanc, Will.i.am, Ryan Reynolds, Slash and Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen. With 7 episodes plus a special this was the most action packed season of Top Gear in about 3-4 years. In the bonus features there's an episode of the American Top Gear. The first episode from season 2 in which the guys find cheap alternatives for pickup trucks in Texas. It's nice that this episode was included because season 2 of the US Top Gear is still not on DVD for some reason. Great DVD for fans of the show and it will provide hours of laughs and entertainment.

1. The camaraderie. The show would never be the same without Jeremy, Richard and James hosting it. These are three blokes who not only love their subject, but they genuinely get along with one another, and that in turn makes the audience feel like we're part of the group, too. They have a chemistry that can't be duplicated. If one of these three ever decides to call it a day (and we're very thankful they've stayed for a decade!), it's time to throw in the towel.

2. The tone. This is not a serious car show. Though there are car reviews and features, it's not going to tell you which car you should buy (unless you really do want to drive around with an Anarchy flag and a waterbed) or how you can pimp your ride. This is a show that's about the love of cars by people who love cars. And frankly, I'd rather see if one can turn a Reliant Robin into a space shuttle than another cut-and-dried review of a minivan.

3. Unsuccessful challenges. I'm not promoting failure here - but it's the fact that these guys aren't afraid to try things that probably won't work that makes the show so fantastic to watch. If they stood around and did only the things that were plausible, or safe, it wouldn't be nearly as interesting. I don't really care that most of the things Jeremy, Richard and James dream up have failed...I'm impressed that they've even tried.

Richard Hammond's 10 Best Challenges

4. A spot of controversy. Continuing on with the above, if our hosts only ever said the things that every other interviewer says, or just the ones that are politically correct, we'd be turning the channel during the chat segments. While they've offended some people, that's still better than being bored to tears.

5. Self-deprecation.

To BBC, please do change your minds and go forward by putting all the TopGear Series on Blu-Ray.

Surely now the cost of printing the series on Blu Ray disc won't greatly affect the budget of the BBC would it? It's not like they would have to sacrifice other shows/documentaries because they are loosing financially to put TopGear on Blu Ray.

Now as for the show.. it is just what we expect from the guys - absolute madness and fun! Some of the best Jeremy Clarkson quotes especially about the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Black Edition is just over the top hilarious.

Although have to comment this series is quite short compared to previous ones.

I have enjoyed all seasons of Top Gear. Its one of my favorite series. If you're a petrol head or a "gear head" you'll enjoy it too.
And even if you're not a car person per say, you'll still enjoy it for entertainment value alone. Jeremy Clarkson is the funniest man there is on BBC and the dynamic between the other co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond are sure to please just about every audience.
