I bought a 4K samsung tv, and returned it back to Amazon the same day. It was crap. Then I bought this. I was %100 sure that I will end up returning this too. But it's simply mind-blowing. Our place is too bright. It kinda works in bright light, but it blows your mind at night. Sooooo happy with this purchase!
I did not really need built-in sound or smart TV features, so I went with the Mini EF11 instead of the EF12.
Overall, I'm really happy with it. The picture quality is really good, very sharp and vibrant. Even at 1080p instead of 4k I can make out tiny details. There is a fan that runs, but it's quieter than the normal sound of the air circulation in our house. Even though it's rated at only 1000 lumens, I still find it plenty bright so long as you treat it like a movie projector and keep the light level low.
By default, I found the colors to be a bit over-saturated, with the greens looking more like neon yellow. This is easy enough to fix with the color settings menu, where you can choose different modes or just slide the Saturation setting down a few notches. WIth that dialed-in, colors are natural and lifelike.
I'm deducting one star, however, for Epson's mystifying decision to not include the metal mounting bracket for attaching the projector to a ceiling mount. There are three small threaded mount holes on the bottom of the unit, with rubber feet occupying 2 of them. You remove the feet to expose the mounts, but a ceiling projector mount with a standard camera tripod thread won't work here. There is a metal mounting bracket that exists for this purpose, but Epson does not seem to sell them separately and they are very hard to find online. I suppose that you could use one of the universal type mounts that have the spiral-arm arrangement to make them fit the built-in screw holes, but I didn't try. I was able to make my own by going to the hardware store and cobbling together a metal T-bracket, some bolts, and threaded adapters that I could drill and make fit with the unit, but it was way more of a project than it needed to be.
Overall, I'm happy with the projector- to the point where I sometimes just turn it on to watch fish videos on Youtube and marvel at how big and sharp, and vivid the pictures are!

With that said, if you look really close, you can see feint tiny lines between the pixels. This probably means that the lasers are projected through LCDs as opposed to DLP technology which gives off a rainbow effect. Still the lines are not as obtrusive as previous generations of projectors. I would buy another one of these projectors in a heartbeat, and am recommending them to my colleagues as they pay half as much for replacement bulbs.
- Lags are generally acceptable. It can be discerned but will not matter much as you move your cursor. I am not gaming with it, but I still do not want too much delay because I need to write something and that will be too laggy. I have heard of 120ms input lag of EF12 and this is the reason I chose EF11 in spite of the discount.
- Noise is very small because it uses laser but not blub for the light source. I really appreciate this and take it as a great advantage. If you are using this in a living room / somewhere not very clean and you have to take care of the dust. Just look at the light in front of the lens! You will find dust floating in the air! If there is a great amount of heat produced, then the fans must work harder so dust accumulates faster and makes the fans more inefficient. This will eventually result in more frequent failure and maintenance.
- Sound is not that bad since I am not watching movies, although I noticed there are some lags of sound when I use 1080p. When using 720p everything is fine. The speaker is located on the left side so you may want to consider where to put the projector.
- Auto keystone is super great and I was not expecting this. This really frees me from manual configuration when I don't have a place to fix the projector.
- The brightness is mediocre. In my living room if there is sunlight directly hitting on the wall then the image will not be clear. But in other cases, it is good, especially in the afternoon or after I pull off the curtain since it has superhigh contrast ratio. For me contrast ratio matter more.
In general, I would recommend EF12 if you are going to watch movies, EF11 if you want a super large monitor, or something else if you game a lot.
Great picture quality
Brightness
Quiet
Fast power on
Neutral:
Input lag is not terrible but not great either.
FPS gaming for me wasn’t an issue.
Cons:
Was sent a used one with a dead pixel. Returned for a refund.

It performs very well even in bright room (we have a sky window that can't be obscured completely.
I had some issues with the audio out when connection to my speaker: issue was the audio cable - somehow the one I had with 3 rings worked with the previous projector but didn't produce anything other than a buzz with this one. I replace the audio cable with a 2 ringed jack and now it works just perfect.
Looking forward to enjoying it for a while!
It works for sources with HDMI outputs but my system is having a synce issue with non-HDMI sources (Wii, PS2, PS1). This is not a deal breaker for me.
The 2nd thing you must know is that the picture is good in a dark room. It is not a bright projector at 1000Lumens.
The 3rd thing you must know is that this projector is for a short throw distance within 11ft or so. The manual adjustments could be tricky but Epson's corner adjustment makes it a bit easier than other system..
I only have the unit for 2 weeks so I could not comment on the longevity of the product. I had it on for 3hours+ and it fine. The power supply does get hot when you use it for that long.
You do not need any special plate to mount this onto the ceiling. I just used a generic projector mount that I bought here in Amazon for $26. Any of the mount with the adjustable legs should do.
I have tested the unit with PS3, WIIU, PS2, Wii, Bluray and Fire Stick Prime video streaming (all sources connected to an AVR)...the result are good. Essentially a good upgrade for the price point
