This was the essence of the vision that the three Equal Exchange founders — Jonathan Rosenthal, Michael Rozyne and Rink Dickinson — held in their minds and hearts as they stood together on a metaphorical cliff back in 1986. The founders decided to meet once a week — and did so for three years — to discuss how best to change the way food is grown, bought, and sold around the world. At the end of this time they had a plan for a new organization called Equal Exchange that would be:

  • A social change organization that would help farmers and their families gain more control over their economic futures.
  • A group that would educate consumers about trade issues affecting farmers.
  • A provider of high-quality foods that would nourish the body and the soul.
  • A company that would be controlled by the people who did the actual work.
  • A community of dedicated individuals who believed that honesty, respect, and mutual benefit are integral to any worthwhile endeavor.

Most teas — even Fair Trade teas — come from large-scale plantations and tea estates where workers have little say, and are trapped in a system of dependency. Equal Exchange’s fairly traded, organic teas are different! We buy our delicious tea directly from democratically-organized groups of growers. When small-scale farmers gain access to the global market, they have more economic power, better lives, and healthier communities.

My issue is the price is litterally doubled on here for some reason. Buy it directly from the company and pay half the price for the same product.

I purchased a single box at the local grocery store for drinking at work. I have brewed a cup three different times and no matter what I do, it tastes absolutely horrible. Very bitter.

I do not use boiling water and I try not to leave the bag steeping too long. I don't know why my experience differs from the other reviewers.

I am a long time tea lover and I especially love loose leaf teas. I was so disappointed with this tea.

I'd like to give it less, but o settled on 3 stars because it is organic and free trade.

On 11/16/2020, I received another box of the tea. If my math is correct, one plus one equals two, not three. I am still shorted by one box.
