Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Thom Yorke, main man of Radiohead, releases his debut solo album entitled ERASER. Featuring nine new tracks produced by Nigel Godrich.
Amazon.com
Some writers and fans have taken to calling this album Kid B, the (obvious) implication that it's the companion piece to Radiohead's masterpiece of electronic rock. And while The Eraser does compare favorably to that work, it's no longer ahead of its time, just simply of its time. We can't all be visionaries all the time, however, and it's understandable that Yorke wants to play with his computer more than he gets to with his rock and roll band. Looped bubbly bloops, sleight drones, and curious bleeps complement Yorke's distinctive vocals throughout. The album at times sounds like demo versions, as if they were an update of the way Pete Townshend used to do solo versions of all his songs for the Who. It's tough not to expect the rest of the band to come in and "complete" a particular song. But once you get used to the fact that this isn't going to happen, the album reveals itself as a delightful, occasionally brave work that's as playful as it is melancholic. --Mike McGonigal

In fact I would probably liken this album's sound to be more akin to the electronic cuts off "Hail to the Theif". Some sounds, and thematic elements are eerily similar to songs like "Sit down, Stand Up", "Backdrifts", and "The Gloaming".
The album, while surprisingly short, is platform on which Thom is able to freely explore sound and rhythm. The result is a lyrically beautiful and sonically fascinating piece of work.
Too many reviewers have blasted Thom for not creating an album that is up to par with past Radiohead releases. While this is true to some extent; "The Eraser" is not a Radiohead album, however focusing on how each track off Eraser stacks up against Kid A, Amnesiac, or Hail to the Thief, is a futile waste of time.
The mere fact that an individual, Thom Yorke, a piece of the wonderfully intricate puzzle that is Radiohead, can put together an album of this dimension...by himself, speaks about how incredible an artist he is. Additionally, it also helps to put the talent of Radiohead, as a band, in perspective; Thom is not Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood is not Radiohead, Ed O'brian is not Radiohead, Colin Greenwood is not Radiohead, Phil Selway is not Radiohead. Together (their powers combined!), they make Radiohead.
Don't think of "The Eraser" as a Radiohead album, becasue it couldn't be farther from. Simply admire it as the collective thoughts and interests of one individual who aspires to explore the universe of music and sound.
The success of one, benefits and shines light onto the rest.
i see a lot of people talking about how cold this record is; to me the eraser is deeply personal and vulnerable. some of the lyrics make me blush (atoms for peace) while others make me feel totally disturbed (skip divided) and that's a great thing.
thom's voice is the main instrument here and it's wonderful to hear that great falsetto again. his voice is just stunning. listen to this on headphones and you will be very pleased at the artful way in which it's mixed. my favorites are probably harrowdown hill, skip divided and atoms for peace, but the whole thing is just amazing. honestly, i can't praise it enough.
i think people are getting too caught up in 'what is this'--whether or not it's electronica or ambient or whatever--who cares? listen to it and enjoy it. whatever you want to call it, the eraser is very, very good stuff and the songs stay with you. it will definitely stay in heavy rotation on my winamp.
beautiful stuff, thanks thom.

A must for any Radiohead fan who has really enjoyed their material from 2000 and onwards.
And it is brilliant, never heard this till I bought it last week...
But It is great driving music, with alot of emotion in it, I'd say I prefer
this to some of Radioheads best stuff.
Good price. Well packaged, quick delivery.
