I have a Moby, which I adore, but when the baby started getting stronger and more wiggly (not until around 9 months did it start being any sort of issue) I wanted something more structured so I wouldn't be so worried about him flipping himself out. I really had a hard time deciding between the Ergo, Beco, and Boba, and spent hours trying to decide. I ended up choosing the Ergo because it is the only one that I have actually tried on before, so I know it is comfortable. Plus I love the "Night Sky" pattern.

It is high quality and very comfortable. There are a couple drawbacks: One is that it is really, really hard for me to buckle the strap that goes behind me when I am wearing the baby on the front. The other is that its hard to get babies on your back. It is however quite easy to get toddlers and preschoolers on your back. The other day I put a 3.5 year old in the carrier and it was surprisingly comfortable for both of us. She tried to get me to wear her to the park, which I could have done no problem, but since half the reason we go to the park is for exercise I told her no. I did wear her around the house for a while though, and it was super easy! I highly recommend this carrier, and have actually stopped people in Babies R Us to tell them about it when I heard them talking about getting a Bjorn. Which if you knew me, you would know is a huge deal because I tend to be quite an introvert. If you have any questions about this carrier, leave a comment and I will answer.

*When buying an Ergo online, make sure you buy it from an authorized retailer. A lot of them that you find online are counterfeit and at best are of a sub par quality and at worst dangerous.

I've wanted an ergo for a long time and used a trip as an excuse to buy one.

Aside from the regular good quality of Ergo in general, this particular style is great. Both my husband and I are fat (I'm about 250 right now) and it fits just fine.

The Ergo is a wonderful carrier that you, your spouse and baby can use comfortably for hours, whether you're running errands, traveling, hiking or just hanging out with your baby at home. I have used them with all my three kids from the time they were born - there are three types:

(1) ERGObaby Original Baby Carrier, Black/Camel), made of thick canvas-like cotton with soft flexible shoulder straps and a soft lining. It has a roomy pocket in front with a zipper for your wallet, keys, cell phone, passport, etc. I had this one for 4 years with 3 kids, still going strong. It can be used even with older toddlers as it goes to 40 lbs if needed.
(2) Ergobaby Performance Collection Charcoal Grey Carrier- this carrier has a more snug fit with thick, stiff contoured straps - I found this one very uncomfortable, with much more fabric covering my child than the original Ergo. The space for my baby was less roomy, so I returned it. However, many parents do like it.
(3) ERGObaby Original Collection Sport Baby Carrier - Black - this is a lightweight version of the original, with a streamlined design. Great for summer, has longer straps than the original, but it doesn't have the storage pocket in front for personal items. The original Ergo (#1) provides more coverage & warmth for the baby.

Some models are sold with extender belts, for people with larger frames. Make sure it is in the description if you need this.

I love my Ergo Baby and wish we would have gotten it sooner! It still works for both of my children and they both love it.

I have the original Baby Bjorn which works well but after awhile it hurts my back. I found I used the baby Bjorn when my son needed to be in the insert for the ergo baby.

Pros:
It is easy to discretely breast feed the baby (from a women's perspective)
The cover works for naps or feeding.
Has back support
Easy to use
Can hold your child from birth to 42 pounds
Convertible to side, front and back

Cons:
Your child has to be facing you

I purchased this carrier based on many friends raves. They were 100% correct. I could not have survived my visit to my mom's in Hawaii without it. First off, I have 3 kids, ages 5, 2.5 and 5 months. I was traveling alone from California to Oahu.... on a plane...... with 3 kids........ alone.........with 1 adult & 3 kids worth of stuff....... plus a stroller.......... did I mention I had nobody there to help me? So you can imagine the trip from arriving at the airport thru finally making it to "Nana's" house was complete chaos. I had my 5 month old (by the way, he's no average 5 month old, he is 27 lbs of pure chunky boy cuteness, no small feat carrying him more than 5 minutes) he was in my Ergo on the front of me, a backpack full of assorted child stuff for the plane, pushing a double stroller with 2 kids and each of their carry ons in it, dragging the hugest suitcase ever behind me. I figured for sure my back was done for after just that leg of our trip......NOPE!! This Ergo saved the day. The support is awesome, it has a great amount of lower back support with the belt strap and the shoulder straps are nice and thick so they dont cut into your shoulders. My little guy is very.... not little! So I have had a very hard time finding something that was ideal for his comfort as well as my own. I had a Bjorn, it wasnt practical for a big baby, his chunky thighs seemed squeezed in, the Ergo is designed so the child's legs are more elevated, much more comfortable looking for the baby. I liked the pockets, made for a good place to keep my wallet and phone during our many long walks on the beach. It easily goes in the washer and doesn't lose its shape. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that is a baby wearer, if you tend to use a carrier often then it is well worth the investment.Read more ›
