15 MONTHS OF USE AND STILL GOING STRONG,

I really love this setup. I wear these while working out, about a total of 10 hours per week, and sometimes at home while working around the house. Excellent sound quality, decent battery life, and I have had absolutely no problems with the clip. I've clipped it onto different types of clothing with no problems, you just have to remember it's not made of steel and have reasonable expectations. I also find myself using the radio feature more than I expected. Excellent reception of my local PBS station! I have looked at other types of Bluetooth earbuds, and I still like this the best.

This Bluetooth headset arrived 4 days ago and I've been putting it through its paces since. Pairing was a snap, and sound quality is excellent.

Pros:

-Small and lightweight; doesn't weigh down a blouse or t-top neckline when attached with the clip

- Siri works very well with it. I opened apps, directed Siri to play music albums, made and received phone calls, checked my calendar, etc. any problems I encountered were, I believe, Siri's inability to understand some words (names are especially difficult) plus you have to know what commands can handle , so I'm learning more about Siri!

- long battery life!

- radio has good reception, even in a mall; my local PBS station sounds great!

- display of what's playing is excellent

Cons:

- small size! If you have large hands and fingers or dexterity issues, you will find it difficult to work the control buttons; it took me a day to figure out the best way to approach the buttons for volume and playback without messing up one or the other

- volume slider only reacts well if your fingers are not overly dry or callused; and its easy to touch it by mistake and blast your ears

- clip is indeed a bit flimsy, which is why I took one star away. But I think if one is careful not to try to clip it onto something too thick, it should hold up for awhile. Would be much better if the clip were metal instead of plastic. If it breaks, I'll figure out a way to super- glue a metal clip or attach it to a lanyard - that's how much I like this headset.

- earphone rubber tips are too rigid for my comfort. I have small ear canals and even smallest tip was uncomfortable. I removed them and replaced them with softer tips from a dead set of Sony wired earphones and now fit comfortably.

I had a similar setup made by LG about 6-7 years ago and I loved it, so was excited to find this setup. My LG headset just plain wore out and I've been stuck with wired headset since.

A word of caution if you're planning on leaving your phone, iPod, etc. in your pocket - my son had the same LG headset as mine, and his phone fell out of his pocket on the bus. He didn't realize it until he got off the bus and the sound went dead in the Bluetooth headset! Fortunately it was way before iPhones existed so replacing the phone wasn't too expensive, but still.... So just be sure you know where your phone is while listening to your music with any Bluetooth stereo headset ;).

A review of the Sony-Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth clip with phone and audio control buttons and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

I have had one of these (mine is black) for a little over a year. I use it primarily for listening to music on my android phone.

-Description & Looks:
It is a small device, about the size of a ChapStick lipbalm tube, and only a little heavier than that. It's got a screen on the front side under dark tinted plastic. Below the screen is a button for answering and ending a phonecall. (or activating voice dialing if your phone does that sort of thing) There is a thin springy clip on the back with small teeth to let you clip it to your clothing or perhaps to a shoulder strap of a backpack or bag.

Rotate it 90 degrees to one side of the screen and you'll find 3 buttons for audio controls: next track, play-pause, and previous track.

Rotate it 90 degrees the other way from the screen and you'll find a volume slider bar. It's a touch sensitive bar kind of like the scroll wheel on an older iPod.

On the end near the hinge to the clip is the 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the other end is a button to power the unit on or off. The Sony Ericsson logo scrolls across the screen when it is turned on or off.

There's a pinhole microphone on it somewhere for making calls and using voice-dialing.

-My usage case for the Bluetooth device:
I listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks at work. I need to be able to quickly stop playing the music to help customers. I used to use a 4th gen iPod Nano with playlists for my stuff.

I lace my earbuds under my shirt and around my collar and pop them in my ears to listen, then tuck them down my neck when I want to be discrete at work. I used to punch a small hole for the headphones into my shirt pocket, thread the headphone jack into the pocket from under the shirt, and plug them into an iPod in the shirt pocket.It's fairly well hidden when i'm not listening to music, and I can quickly remove or tuck in the headphones when I need them.

I used this setup for 5 years with various iPods, using cases that let me easily feel the scroll wheel and find the play-pause button of the iPod to stop music quickly.

When my 4th gen Nano died (water and iPods don't mix) I didn't want the 6th gen touchscreen Nano since I would have to fish it out of a pocket, look at it, and touch the on-screen button to stop the music. Not discrete at all.

-Why the Sony Ericsson MW600:
I got this a little over a year. I started using my phone to play music but didn't want to have to take the phone out of my pocket just to stop playback. The small size of the unit let me clip it to my shirt, hidden under my necktie, and connect it via Bluetooth to my phone in my shirt. I looked at similar devices at the time and this was the only one from a name I had heard of that had actual buttons and a headphone jack so I could use my own earbuds.

-Using the device, Pro's and Con's:
Pros:

~ Battery lasts me for an 8-hour work day. I commute up to an hour to and from work, and only two times have I had the battery die on the way home. I'm happy with the battery life of this little guy.

~ Pretty good phone quality with the mic. Even with the microphone half-way down my shirt, most callers have no problem hearing me. With it under my necktie, I even get a bit of wind-noise protection when on a call. Answering the phone with the small front facing button is fairly easy, just put your thumb behind it by the bottom of the clip, use your fore-finger to hit the button.

~ Decent screen read-ability. You can read the number of the incoming call fairly well in most lighting situations. The small battery meter has only 3 segments and is the size of one character on the screen, but can be seen by my tired eyes after a moment.

~ Fairly light weight plus a decent clip lets it stay put in most conditions. If I run or jump with it on smooth fabric, it may slip off, but the headphone cord stays snug so it hasn't fallen to the ground. It's pretty easy to clip it and remove it to clothing if you want to move it from a shirt collar to say the end of a shirt sleeve.

Cons:

~ Finding the audio control buttons can be tough. This is the biggest downer for me. To pause playback, I need to feel for the unit on my shirt, find the front, feel gently for the controls and make sure I have the small center button under my finger before I press it. If I miss, I end up going to the next or previous track. Aside from having to keep looking for the right spot to pause the music, I then have to take out my phone, open the music app, and try to find the spot in my podcast or audiobook I was listening to before.

A solution for me would be if the unit wold only fast-forward or fast-reverse when those buttons are pressed instead of going to the next track. If I wanted to go to the next track, I would have it set so I would need to double-click the Next or Back buttons.

iPods will remember the position of a podcast or an audiobook if you skip ahead. I don;t know of an Android phone app that works with this device that does this. (I use doubleTwist player)

~ Volume is very fiddly. The slider for volume is hit or miss as far as the sensitivity of raising or lowering the volume. Sometimes I can swipe alone the side and lower the volume by half, sometimes it takes multiple swipes to lower the volume by that much, and still other times I give up and lower the volume on the phone itself instead of dealing with the volume slider. Warm, cold, dry or damp weather, it's a hit or miss thing for me.

~ The clip is not indestructible. I broke the clip on mine two days ago, by lifting a large box and brushing against the unit as I brought it to chest level. A tab on the clip itself broke off and I can't fix it. I have been using it since then by wrapping the headphone cord around a shirt button and letting it dangle on the front of my shirt alongside my necktie. It has been harder to quickly find the play-pause button since it's now flopping around loose.

~ My custom ringtones don't play through the headset. I get a generic musical ringtone for all of my incoming calls. Custom notification sounds come through differently, but ringtones are all generic.

~ The song name display is out of whack. I have been listening to a bunch of music, podcasts and audiobooks with this thing. When I listen to music and look at the display, I see the title to the Blondie song 'Rip her to shreds'. I have the song on the phone, but haven't played it in a while. I used to see an 'unknown' message for songs it doesn't know, but have seen 'Rip her to shreds' for a month now.

~ Needs 'line of sight' from Bluetooth to phone or it loses connection. I have had the phone in my jacket pocket, bluetooth clipped to the front of the jacket, and lost connection. I have lost connection by having the phone in one shirt pocket and the bluetooth clipped to the other. I have maintained connection with the phone on a desk across a room, then lost it as I walked towards the phone and bent down to pick up something from the floor.

-Conclusion:
For making phone calls without taking the phone out of my pocket, I give it 4 stars. Loses a star due to the lack of playing custom ringtones.

For song playback, I give it 3 1/2 stars. You can't fast forward or fast reverse, but skipping ahead or back is not as hard as pausing the music.

For audiobooks and podcasts, I give it 2 stars. The inability to fast-forward or back to resume a place in your track is more than annoying. This is partially a failure of Android players but designing the buttons differently would help solve this issue.

As for the bluetooth losing signal, this seems to be an issue with other players as well, so I can't single out this unit, all I can say is it's annoying.

For casual listening, it works well enough. Just be prepared to take time to find the correct buttons when listening to music. I wish I knew of a better device than this one, still looking.

On a side note, since I broke the clip, I am thinking of spending close to 100 dollars on a used 4th or 5th gen Nano and getting a case for it to let me more easily hit the play-pause button. The small buttons on this thing are THAT annoying to me.

I had several bluetooth stereo headsets and one bluetooth headphone adapter before so I have a bit of experience with these.

After a couple of weeks I have found this to be quite excellent. One of my complaints about other bluetooth devices was how long they took to power on and off. This device does both of those actions quickly. Although the power button is rather small and you have to pretty much look at the device to find it.

This also has some rather unique features such as a volume slider bar that has no physical button but an area you swipe up and down on. This works quite well, although it can be adjusted accidentally. Also a nice feature is the text display which not only helps you to know the device is on but also gives song and audio information.

The range of this device is the best that I have seen and I can go farther away from the bluetooth source than I have previously been able. The battery also has long life and I have not come into a situation where I ran out of power despite using it all day at work.

I never tried out the FM radio features.

Overall I am very happy with this bluetooth adapter as it does exactly what I need with no hassles and it allows me to use any headphones I want with it.

Cons: Touch button too sensitive (volume) - You can't hold the headset and choose next song (or radio) without messing with the volume. Need to factory reset to work with Samsung S3. The placement of the jack and the position to read the song is freaking terrible! The proper placement of the product makes the display upside down... Kill those design guys! The ear plugs are designed in a way that you can not change (L/R) if you want to use it on the right of your body.

Well it works on my iPad 3 except:
1. Play/Pause/Next don't work (with the iPad at least)
2. The volume control is way way too touchy, it is practically useless. I might put duct tape over it
3. Pressing the clip causes me to accidentally press the phone button almost every time
4. Can't see the screen in even the lowest light
