This book was disappointing. I was expecting a good read based on the other reviews. I know this review is going to be lost among the masses of raves. This book is about a woman who becomes a sex slave to a nice caring man who looks like an Adonis. In his circle, all the men are gorgeous hunks and have sex slaves that are beautiful and love to be shared with other men. These people live for kinky sex. They are all rich so they can spend nearly all their time having sex and experimenting with bondage toys. The women love being held against their will and not having any ambitions or life of their own. They dread having their owners set them free. They are fine with being whipped and branded because their owners are so gentle afterwards.
I can't believe I made it all to the end of the book. I was hoping it would have some redeeming value, some adventure or suspense. It didn't.

Editorial Reviews
From the Author
What readers are saying:
"Kitty described this book as a hybrid love child between Comfort Food and Tender Mercies (my #1 and #2) and it absolutely is that. If you liked either of those, chances are you'll love this." - Charlie, Goodreads Reader
"Her worlds always seem to be so wrong, yet somehow turn out to have been right all along. And this world is just another incredible example of that. And holy shit does it ever deliver. You almost couldn't make up a story this crazy." - Cindi Russell, Goodreads Reader
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
THE ESCAPE ARTIST occurs in the same world as THE CON ARTIST, though it is a standalone in its own right. (You could read THE ESCAPE ARTIST without THE CON ARTIST even existing and be satisfied and not in any way confused. This is a full and complete story on its own.)
If you've already read THE CON ARTIST, THE ESCAPE ARTIST will make you appreciate that book more and may make you fall in love with a character you didn't think you liked.
HOWEVER if you have NOT read THE CON ARTIST, I SERIOUSLY recommend reading THE ESCAPE ARTIST first.
Why? Because THE CON ARTIST is a niche reading experience. It is not for everybody and if you are not one of the people it is for and you read it first, you won't read THE ESCAPE ARTIST, which would be a shame.
Thank you for reading!

SUPERB
OUTSTANDING
EMOTIONALLY GUTTING
HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL
These were the immediate thoughts that crossed my mind as I finished Ms. Thomas' 'The Escape Artist'.
A writer with the author's skills is a treasure beyond compare to this lifelong reader. And Ms. Thomas just does NOT disappoint. Her wordcrafting skill is almost magical, her deft light style is so deceptive: she's a powerful magnet & her readers are helpless steel (as least THIS one IS) completely pulled into & trapped in the world she creates.
To me, her writing is like a soft delicate mist that swirls around you, creating intense mental images & deep emotions that not only can you not escape, you don't want to.
I feel helpless writing this review because I don't want to give away/spoil ANYTHING about this one: not the plot, not the characters (Ari & Claire) or their relationship/development. But she's crafted two characters I love: Ari & Claire. Both of them flawlessly written & detailed, fleshed out. The reader is privy to their thoughts, feelings, impressions of each other & their situation & in Claire's case her horrifyingly traumatic past that has been slowly & irrevocably destroying her life. And Ari, there were so many paths open to him in how to deal with Claire. And IMO he chooses the one that seems to be a dark decision for Claire & self serving for him, yet may be Claire's only hope to prevent her delicate & damaged sanity from shattering.
But Ms. Thomas is a rare author who has the wonderous talent to be able to write dark plots with characters who ought to be viewed as dark & yet help the reader to see the dark through a different lens, to see that all dark isn't evil or mean or cruel. Some dark can be safe, sheltering, protective, gentle & beautiful.
What I WILL say about this book: if you as a reader love excellent writing, writing that deftly draws you in, writing that truly does challenge your prespective, makes your heart ache with empathy, makes your heart warm, that brings you a full spectrum of emotions: READ THIS BOOK. Seriously, read this book.
Is there dark in it? Yes.
Are there triggers in it? Yes.
Are there erotic scenes that sizzle & scorch off the page? Oh, man, YES.
Are there characters the reader CARES about, is INVESTED in, ROOTING for? Yes, yes, yes!
Do I think the reader will love this book: the writing, the plot, the characters? YES, YES, YES.
Having read MANY of this author's books, I know she doesn't use the phrase 'I love you'.
In this book (IMO) her characters SHOW it & LIVE it in subtle but deeply intense & meaningful ways.
This one truly made me feel good, happy, beyond pleased. It made me smile & actually tear up. ME!
It is a wonderous, dark but beautiful book.
Do yourself a favor, don't be afraid of some dark, some heartache, some trauma.
Because there is light too: healing, protection & IMO, while unspoken, there is deep & devoted LOVE.

I loved the start of the book , Claire had been captured and tortured and treated terribly ( trigger risk for sensitive readers) and after escaping she spots her monster in a local coffee shop...... so she captures him to return the favor. Great flip on the usual woman being the victim.
In an attempt to avoid spoilers I won’t elaborate on the start, but be fair to say eventually Ari and Claire cross paths in the middle of this nightmare and they are a match made in heaven.
I loved that Q and Saskia play a key part in this book and bring their kinky /sensual form of art along for the fun.
For all you Kitty book lovers she truly delivers to our kinky appetites and you will be provided with plenty to satisfy.
I’m not a fan of branding but the way Kitty played out this scene took my emotions from anxious to ready to rip a bitches face off in 0.1 second. My emotions were so well managed thru this it numbed my nerves just like that scorching hot brand!
I look forward to the next book in this series , I hope we hear more about Marcus and his relationship with Q and of course Saskia.
Easy 5 stars , not a book for those with sensitive / unkinky appetites , but for the rest of you , one click it , Worth every penny!

Amazing. Totally amazing. A must read book.

I absolutely loved this book.
From the first line to the last, The Escape Artist held me captive, just as Claire and Ari were held captive by one another. Kitty Thomas has crafted yet another amazing masterpiece of a story, one where she takes all the elements of wrongness and twists them into something that is so very right. This story is by parts emotionally charged, depraved, incredibly hot, fantastically written and populated with great characters.
The relationship between Claire and Ari is consensual at the same time as it isn't, with the author somehow skating a fine line between the two. Just as I decided it was one thing, the tables turned and it became the other. Even more amazingly, Ms Thomas manages to take a relationship based on everything wrong and turn it into something perfect.
Ari was a good man until life gave him an opportunity to be otherwise, and yet that wrongness was the perfect thing to save Claire. Despite how morally dubious his actions were I adored him, and it was always clear that Claire's wellbeing was his top priority. Theirs may not have been the most conventional of relationships, erroneous in just about every way possible, but it was exactly the relationship both of them needed.
The author has taken the possibly overused "captive" trope and shaken it up, producing a story that feels fresh and new. This is one red hot NSFW read, pushing buttons and boundaries in the most delightful of manners. I totally loved every single thought, word and action in the book, I simply can't sing its praises loudly enough. In fact it's left me with a deep need to read more of her work.

After escaping from her very abusive captor ,Claire lived her life in fear always looking over her shoulder believing that she’d be taken again . Although from a very wealthy family they certainly weren’t very close ,Claire always kept her visits to her parents to Christmas and other holidays . After her escape she made her apartment very secure and always hated leaving it . Whilst on a shopping trip for essentials she thought that she like to eat a meal out like a normal person, her trip out was curtailed though when she thought she’d seen her abuser sitting in the cafe . In a blind panic she decided that enough was enough she’d make sure that he could never harm her again so a plan was hatched to rid the world of this evil . If you’ve read the previous book you’ll be well aware of who Ari is , having just got out of a long term relationship with Holly , who just up and left him he’s now having difficulty in settling into single life once more . On one such evening he’s drowning his sorrows in a bar, next thing he knows he’s been held captive by some strange woman ,who’s got it into her head that he’s someone else . It’s clearly a case of mistaken identity the question is though will every thing be able to be worked out before serious harm comes to him ? In some respects this story is a lot tamer than the other ones ,but equally enjoyable , we also learn more of the Quill Saskia & Marcus dynamic .

Incredible. I have previously read The Con Artist, which is where Ari (one of the main characters in this book) is first introduced. There was something so mysterious and intriguing about him and I was dying to know more about his story. This book definitely delivered on that one. It's dark but not twisted and it's very romantic. Highly recommend.

Different, emotional, twisted and beautifully written Kitty has raised the bar with this book.
From the first page to the last I was hooked Claire is not your average character and although I have met Ari before in the Con Artist it was only a glimpse. I was completely absorbed into thier story.
This book takes place in the same world as the Con Artist but you can dive in without having to read the Con Artist first. Although if you have read the Con Artist you are in for a treat because we get to see some more of Saskia and Quill.
This book is so different I should expect this by now as I am a huge fan of this author but she always manages to surprise me and bring something fresh and different. I absolutely loved this book it is a must read.
