Fun escape room book

This book was a lot of fun! Only 2 times were we unable to find the correct answer which sends you to the next page and the online help was enough for us to figure out what we needed to. Puzzles were generally fun and clever and we really enjoyed the back-story and the way the book was put together. Would definitely recommend for escape room fans and I hope another book is planned by the author!

A solid addition to the genre

I have bought other 'escape room in a book' books, but this one is somewhat unique in the story that is presented to you. Usually you can ignore the backstory in these kinds of games and get right to the puzzles. But in this case it's not a 'first person' adventure -- you meet an investigator trying to solve a case. (That's vague enough that I'm not spoiling anything...) As a result, you get some actual narrative, which you can choose to ignore if you want, but it's actually pretty good, and worth reading.

The puzzles were good -- I felt like they rely more on observation and visual cues rather than logic or brain teasers. There was enough room for note taking. I did find myself going to the web site for a clue once or twice, but the clues don't immediately give away the answers, so they are truly clues in that sense.

The only issue I had is with the format. If you solve a puzzle incorrectly and go to the wrong page, you can spoil part of the game. If you're really stuck, it's almost too easy to scan the pages and figure out where you should have gone by brute force instead of solving the puzzle. Still, it's a good 60-90 minute adventure, and perfect for a plane trip.

I like these kind of books to play solo. However, "The Curse of Old Maid Milly" has some odd puzzles. One in particular asked me to find the number of differences between two pictures. The answer is some ridiculous large number. What? Another puzzle had multiple answers and I was suprised my solution was wrong.
The hand-drawn pictures are also low quality and can cause difficulty in discovering solutions.

I’ve been into Escape Rooms now for a while, so kind of class myself with having a good idea of what to do when it comes to doing them with my 16yr old son. Searching on Amazon I came across this book which is the first time I’ve ever seen an Escape Room in a book so thought I’d give it ago.
‘Its Brilliant!’, still can’t believe it actually works. It reminded me of my fantasy books back when I was a kid (very longtime ago!). The puzzles make sense and even for us still challenged us to complete. What I really loved was my son with his head in a book for days! If your not able to go and do a Escape Room then on the side I would highly recommend this book, great fun, well written and a brilliant travel companion.

Enjoyable and set at a good level of challenge without needing to tear up the book.

I found a couple of issues with the puzzles:

It appears to be missing the item to go into the satchel to solve puzzle 59, however. *Reflect* on what you could place there.

Fairly certain that the letter is missing from the wardrobe, or there's a pun which is just a bit too much of a stretch. Fortunately it's not enough to stop you naming the cats.

Everything else is absolutely solvable. The clock was frustrating but I got there eventually. Try everything.

If all else fails and you get properly stuck, there are hints available on the website.
