I am an elementary school librarian. Recently my really nice ($200 +) wireless scanner stopped working. While I wait for the replacement I decided to purchase this. It works great for my needs. I just plugged it in and it worked. I don't even need to pull the trigger. I placed it in the stand and just slide the books under it. This is a time and budget saver!

Not worth it. Doesn't work consistently. There seems to be no way to get technical support for this device. First time plugged it in, it scanned perfect entering serial numbers into Excel. Then later the laser would not scan when the trigger was pulled. Pulling the trigger repeatedly and it would scan intermediately. Put it away as I didn't have time to mess with it. Now I'm needing it to do inventory and after a few scans, the laser won't fire when the trigger is pulled. I've used several scanners before and never encountered one like this that would just stop scanning when the trigger is pulled. Spend the money and get a better one. Only good news- I'm not out a lot of money - I'm passed my return date so I have to eat it.

Overall I like the item, it works ok and is inexpensive, but I have three gripes. Two are design based, one is a connectivity problem.

First, the thing is not balanced well. sitting in it's docking cradle, the base is such light plastic that it tips over if not perfectly weight balanced. the buyer would likely need to nail or screw the base down on a countertop to keep the thing from flopping over.

Second, The docking cradle does not securely nest the scanning unit and it pops out / falls out of it's cradle all the time. I have a rubberband wrapped around the scanner and the nesting dock to hold the scanner in place.

Third, after about 30 minutes the scanner stops communicating with the computer while plugged into the USB port, so I have to unplug the scanner USB male end of the cord from the laptop and then replug it in. this seems to "refresh" the scanner so it communicates with the computer again.

I am a member of our county electoral board -- a rural Virginia county. We use laptops with our pollbook installed to check in voters. That is, the laptop contains a database with search capability to lists all our registered voters.

At each election, we have a small problem -- 4,5,6, 7 voters out of 4,500 -- with the wrong voter being checked in as a result of poll worker error. Most of our poll workers are older folks, not comfortable with computers.

We ordered these scanners because, according to the software vendor, could simply plug it into the laptop and scan a voter's driver's license or voter ID card and the database will look up the voter, thereby eliminating operator error.

WORKS PERFECTLY. Plugged in the scanner, no setup, started scanning. Our poll book errors are zero. We have six polls, two laptops per poll, 12 scanners plus two for training and spares.

Not a problem and the poll workers love them.

I would not purchase this item. It's listed as a generic barcode scanner and from other reviews it appears to be a mixed bag as far as what you will receive. I purchased 10 and I had them as inventory until I tried using them 3 months later. They will not work on my Raspberry Pi's. They work fine on a PC but when you plug them into a PI they sound distorted and wonky. They only partial return what was scanned to the computer. Again I know I should have checked what I purchased before I did but with the other reviews I wanted to add my 2 cents.

It does exactly what it's meant to do, without needing to install any special drivers. It should work with almost any computer and operating system. I only subtracted one star because it comes set to the mode where it is continuously scanning, and to reprogram it you get a sheet full of barcodes to program different features -- which means it'll be scanning barcodes like crazy and programming things you don't want unless you block off all of the barcodes except the one you actually want to scan. It'd be a lot more convenient if it came from the factory programmed to only scan when you push the trigger.

this is JUNK. first one i bought this from iMonkey and received a completely different product than one pictured. 2nd from another seller, but same issue. basically, it seems that a bunch of random sellers are jumping in on this product listing because it seems generic, non branded. Scanner i received does not look anything like the one pictured, and same is true for the stand as well.
NOW, instructions seem to be same/similar for this scanner. it says: LASER LIFE 10000 hrs, button life: 50000 scans. thats NOTHING, and your scanner will "die" in less than a year or thereabout, even if there is nothing else wrong with it. the stand is extremely flimsy because it doesnt have a weighted base like pictured, just a piece of hollow plastic. scanner doesnt correspond to most programming codes, so the laser light is always on, which is a NONO. spend few more bucks and have a worry free scanner that will work when you need it.

Nice scanner for the price. Instructions are almost non-existent, but it really is simple to operate. Plug and play. The issue with this unit is that to automatically insert the bar code number in to an Excel spreadsheet the cell(s) must be formatted to text. This unit does not automatically do that for Excel at least. If you can get around that and pre-format your cells, this is a great scanner for the price.
