First of all, this is produced by the folks who produced the ESPN series 30 for 30 which should be enough of an endorsement right there. The film starts out with O.J. sitting in front of the parole board answering the question 'what have you been doing while in prison'? Very subdued and somber he talks about working as a janitor, cleaning toilets, etc. Then his eyes light up a little and he talks about coaching the prison football team & that they won the championship. In that scene you see what he was and what he is now. The rest of the film is telling the story of how he got to where he is now. Along the way, it tells the story of race, racism and the criminal justice system in America. The football clips are generous and awesome. There are a lot of scenes of O.J. in situations that were taken by cell phones, etc where he probably wasn't aware he was being filmed. How did this Heisman trophy winner go from running thru defenses like he ran thru airports for Hertz fall so far as to end up cleaning toilets in prison? There are really three O.J. trials,, the first for the murder of Nicole & Ron Goldman, the 2nd a civil trial for damages to the families of both Nicole & Ron and the 3rd for kidnapping in LasVegas. O.J. won the first and lost the 2nd & 3rd. The stories behind the scenes of all three are very interesting. While it's almost 8 hours of watching, it's a very worthwhile experience. CAUTION: Though brief, the crime scene photographs of the murders are very graphic and I don't remember seeing them during any of the Court TV coverage of the trial. Also, as O.J.'s life spins out of control in a downward spiral after the 1st trial there are some brief scenes of his decadent life style with drugs & women.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2017Truly a brilliant piece of work. Never did I think or want to relive this moment in time, but the makers of this documentary pulled me in from the start. It traces the evolution of OJ, the neighborhood punk, the state of race relations in Los Angeles up through the murder, trial, and the aftermath of this time in our history. Virtually all key players were interviewed from the trial, (except Chris Darden). All of OJ's inner circle and "friends", (except AC Cowlings and the Simpson family). While it would have been nice to hear their point of view, nothing is lost in their absence. It shines a light on race relations, celebrity culture, and our sick fascination with it. Watching it, I'm thinking of that line in Martin Scorcese's Casino, "we had paradise in the palm of our hand, and F'ed it up". That line played in my head when I thought of this once great athlete. What a life, what a tragedy. Do your self a favor and watch this.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021Excellent documentary covering O.J. Simpson’s entire life from his early life up to his recent incarceration for theft. This is one of the best documentary films I’ve seen in a while. Well done with great footage and interviews.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2019Incredible scope beyond True Crime: Athletics, Hollywood, Race, fame, advertising, LAs history, LGBT, psychology and any number of socio-economic issues, all which provide an epic fall from grace, not that the film excuses Simpson in any way whatsoever. Many (some surprising) excellent interviews/interviewees. Amazing archival footage, and the pacing and narrative is that of any great feature film.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2018I didn't know what to expect. I'm not even a football fan.
But I heard about that documentary on the radio and was curious about it.
Sincerely, it's one of the best (if not the best) documentary I've ever watch (and I watched a lot).
Very good... Very interesting! Loved it!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2018Another amazing 30 for 30 production by ESPN. Definitely worth the 10 hours, but if you are more interested in the OJ murder case, skip parts 1 & 2. Both great, but it’s an unnecessary history lesson if you are already aware of the terrible racial tensions sweeping Los Angeles and the LAPD.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2020Not an OJ fan but this was a very well done documentary.

OJ: MADE IN AMERICA tells the tale of racism, success and division of color in America particularly in los Angeles. From Rodney king to tapes of mark fuhrman and trial and aftermath of Oj simpson its a thoughtful, compelling documentary that throws new light on the case. A well deserved Oscar win.
