The cups are on the small size - 2 oz. As a single shot of espresso is defined by the Italian Espresso National Institute as being of 0.85 ± 0.08 US fl oz volume (with crema), the cups should comfortably fit a double shot. I guess some people are used to drink watered down "espresso" and complain that the cups are too small...
The thermal conductivity and thermal capacity of the cups is as it should be for the decent grade thin walled SS. One can test it easily by touching the bottom of the inner wall of a refrigerated cup. In an instant, the metal becomes warm to touch. When I pull espresso shots into these cups, I do not bother preheating them - it does not make any difference, even for a single shot.
