About the Author
Jacob Watson grew up in a New England family, attended traditional schools, then took a hard turn left. He founded an alternative school, became a grief counselor and worked with HIV/AIDS, Hospice, the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Center and the Center for Grieving Children. Broken hearts and wounded spirits - and a fire that damaged his counseling office - propelled him into ministry. He is the founding Abbot of the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine, and devotes his life to teaching, writing and prayer.
Top Customer Reviews
Through his own life experiences and interfaith wisdom Jacob shares how to find life balance and live our true essence. He teaches how emotions are purposeful, need to be expressed and sometimes let go. Emotions seek expression and in doing so opens our heart and therefore our soul. Jacob offers ways to do this creatively and how to be aware and fully embrace the life of spirit. There are beautiful, sweet meditations throughout each chapter which help the reader deepen into spirit connection even more. This was a book that I wish didn’t end. Others to follow would be fantastic!

A MUST-READ BOOK
ESSENCE, The Emotional Path to Spirit, makes a perfect gift. For who among us does not need healing?
Jacob illustrates the path to healing through a disarming, candid sharing of his own journey, beginning with early wounds in his family relationships, “How I have come to understand and celebrate the ways in which my natural emotional life led to my natural spiritual life.”
He harvests Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ model of the Four Quadrants, “When we are conceived . . . suddenly . . . Spirit has become matter . . . Unconsciousness has become Consciousness.”
Jacob emphasizes: “. . . feelings have purposes. Every feeling has a very positive use and benefit.” This highlighting the importance of feelings feels to me liberating. His comments are heartening, especially for those who have lost loved ones. Speaking about such memories, he writes: “Are they not also a person in spirit form? What is unseen is no less real.”
He states outright that, “Our culture has lost its soul,” and shows, with examples, how “we can change the culture in which we live.”
Jacob is clearly a man of deep prayer. His devotion as a longtime practitioner of meditation is reflected not just in the fluidity and effortlessness of his writing style, but in the satisfying substance of his message, the fruit of reflection on his experience: what he has observed and learned and now shares with us. This practical book is full of soul.
