This is a fantastic novel that kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end. The characters are well developed, and the plot is enjoyable. The author has a good grasp of the time period she writes about, which makes the novel very enjoyable.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
We are taken back to the eighteenth century, we are introduced to Peter and Linda Willows a young married couple living in Kentucky on their farm, life seems to be going well for the couple especially with the news that they are going to be parents. Then Peter is offered an opportunity oversees to help their country and he can not resist and decides to leave his pregnant wife and go.
Fortunally Linda is not left alone, with help from a midwife and two young boys she is able to run the farm, but she is very sad and worried about Peter leaving. Peter hopes to be back in time for the birth of their baby, sadly things do not go as planned and while in France things turn ugly and he must go in hiding with his guide Seamus. Linda also awaits the arrival of her twin sister Clara who lives in England. We see the love they have for each other and they keep in touch very well over the years. Then things turn for the worst and tragic stikes, I was shocked that this actually happened. I loved that we get different POV's we jump from Clara, Peter and Linda, we get to know these characters well. I do not want to say to much to give what happens away. But great story, good ending.
SETTING: EIGHTEENTH CENTURY KENTUCKY
A young couple are in preparation for a child. Only a few months until the baby is due, this is their first child, Peter has to go to France on orders from "the Colonel." Peter leaves her with an elderly couple, a sweet midwife and two young orphan boys to run the farm. Peter, his guide, who is his new friend, become the sights of death. During this time, Linda waits for his return to safety. Linda is about to give birth and there has been no word from Peter. Those days were not the best for having a child, but the child waits for no one. Since there has been no word from Peter, Linda faces the birth alone, except of course the elderly couple and the midwife. They all love her. After a long time, Peter comes home only to find his beautiful wife. His life will go into a tail spin.
The author put a lot of raw emotion into this book. Her story enters a lot of emotions into this book. It is a heart warming tale, love, sadness, trials and loss. Will Linda and Peter fight and win the odds? Will Linda and Peter re-kindle a new kind of love that will sustain them until the end? This book is a heart warming, tender and emotional read. It's not a book to miss.
I was given a complimentary copy of ESSENCE OF TIME from the author, Angel Musk and OutSkirtsPress for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.
