In the late 70s, Boney M was all the rage where I live. Like Michael Jackson's Thriller, you can't escape it.

If you enjoyed this super Euro disco group, this essential collection is a good one to pick up because it covers most of their beat known hits and putting it diplomatically, some underrated singles.

Besides the de rigueur Rivers Of Babylon, Daddy Cool, Ma Baker and Hooray! Hooray! It's A Holi-Holiday, some hits appear on Disc 1 as shorter edits such as Gotta Go Home. Other singles who are often overlooked in single disc collections are here, like Baby Do You Wanna Bump, Bahama Mama and Children Of Paradise.

Disc 2 is where Boney M's signature sound starts to deviate a little. Happy Song features child vocalists and sounds like a Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) production. Although Boney's version of My Cherie Amour is great, it doesn't sound like Boney M. Young, Free And Single attempts to ride 80s New Wave and resembles New Order's Blue Monday. And Stories reminded me of Neneh Cherry. Nonetheless, I enjoyed these.

However Disc 2 is balanced by the swaying Malaika, beautiful ballad Somewhere In The World and happy tunes like Felicidad (Margherita).

There are some remixes of Brown Girl In The Ring (Remix '93 Radio Version), Daddy Cool '99 and Ma Baker (Boney M Vs Sashi Extended Radio Edit) - nice additions but not highly essential.

The highly enjoyable Megamix runs seven minutes but Gotta Go Home isn't featured. So why was it in the credits? The closer is a curiosity called Barbra Streisand (The Most Wanted Woman). Producer Frank Farian (apparently he does all the male vocals instead of Bobby Farrell on record) speaks the song's title set to the strains of Gotta Go Home. Interesting...
