I am a beginning knitter and was looking for something to help me expand my knowledge of stitches and how to create items of my own. I want to learn more stitches and how to use them to create attractive items. I've only had the book for a short time but I've already fallen in love with it.
But I can also see it being a useful guide for a more seasoned knitter. There are a wide variety of stitches listed and the book not only tells you how to make the stitch, but also how it can be used/placed in a larger work. The stitches are sectioned according to type (knit and purl, twists, cables, lace, bobbles and leaves, stranded and intarsia, unusual stitches and letters and numbers). Each section is color-coded and rated according to complexity (levels 1 - 3). Instructions for each stitch/pattern are very clear and in many cases given in text and chart form. The book is simply FULL of large color photos.
I am definitely going to keep this book near me.
The only thing I would change about this book is the binding. Its hardcover and not ring or spiral bound so it won't lay flat. But that's a small price to pay for a treasure like this.
I am glad I bought this book.
The book is a real essential knitting guide. If you love knitting (either beginner or Advanced knitter) you will love this book as well. You find basic stiches on front pages -- well, it's a must I guess for a knitting book like that (encyclopedia kind of thing) but since they use beautiful colorful yarns, it's not boring to re learn what you've probably known. The thing thrilling me is the book has so many inspiring stiches. It helps me a lot to design. There's always some ideas pops out whenever I check this book from page to page.
My very favorite thing about this book is the opening pages for each section, with thumbnail snaps of the patterns. Exactly what I suggested Vogue should have done with their pattern books to make them more user friendly. How frustrating to have to flip through each page trying to find the one pattern you're looking for.
It has almost every stitch possible! I am very pleased with it!
I am just a beginner when it come to knitting but can read patterns well. This book starts out with the simple purl and knit stitch combos and then moves onto twists, cables, and more advances stitching.
I really love this book anc can't wait to get started!! =)
It was shipped on time and the packaging was in good shape too!
