I imagine there must be fraud in essential oils like there is in the extra-virgin olive oil market, but going by smell alone, I'd say this is the real McCoy. It smells just like actual cedar wood, and smells better than the tester bottle of Divine Essence Cedrus atlantica I sniffed at a local store. I have another bottle of "Cedar" essential oil, one that's derived from Juniperus ashei, and this smells nothing like it. This is a milder, lemony, woodsy scent. There's a lot number printed on the bottle, which is also reassuring.

As far as potency, I mixed 3 drops (I meant to only use 1, but they dripped out faster than expected) in about 20 mL of rice bran oil and was surprised at how strong the smell and effect was. So I would say it's both authentic and undiluted.

Applied topically (mixed with a carrier oil, of course), Cedrus atlantica seems to soothe sore muscles and joints and jangled nerves, and promotes deep relaxation conducive to sleep (helpful for insomnia). Folklore has it that it also stimulates hair growth, but I haven't any experience with that. The consistency is a bit viscous, like castor oil, which isn't exactly pleasant, but it gets absorbed by the skin quickly enough.

The oil comes in a brown glass bottle, and the bottle comes in an opaque box, providing extra protection from light before being delivered to the consumer. The Divine Essence product was $11 for 15 mL, while here you get twice the amount for $14, so it's a better deal.

On the downside, the sticker on the box was cut, indicating that the box had been opened, but I decided not to return the product because the plastic tabs on the bottle were unbroken, indicating that it had never been opened. I was also a bit miffed to find that the expiry date on the bottle is 10/31/2024, less than 6 months away; I'm therefore storing the oil in the fridge as a precaution. However, since these are issues with Amazon rather than the product itself, I'm not deducting any stars.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.
