I've heard there was a family feud between Hans... and (I don't know the brother's name) Grohe. My vote is for Hans! I've purchased several items and Hansgrohe products seem to be improved over the Grohe versions.
An almost identical item without the paper lid (my preference) is available from Hansgrohe but for $6 more. In retrospect I should have paid the extra $6.
Contrary to Grohe support's information, the lid can be removed and even the direction of the mounting swing bar can be reversed.
1) The unit is not mounted on its center of gravity making the unit always place unnecessary pressure onto the closed side of the bar. Yes, things all have weights and parts where there is more material weigh more!
2) The lid serves no other purpose than being in your way to load a roll, to tear off a piece of paper. If you not careful you can easily stub your fingers especially in the dark.
3) In its initial state as received, the roll holder arm didn't swing or even budged! This made loading a roll pretty hard and as the roll became smaller kept the roll away from the wall letting it spin freely. After taking it apart it turned out that a setscrew holding the arm was tightened too hard.
So I now made all my changes, removing the lid, and reversing the direction of the roll holder arm, and have what's for me is a better unit.
In all fairness, the unit is definitely made well, from solid brass. So it's heavy and will certainly outlive you.
