I have the OTG plugged into my Nexus with a 7-port powered USB hub receiving data from the big plug in the Y, and then power looping back to the other end of the Y from the "fast charge" port on the USB hub.
I have tested it with a USB DAC plugged into the hub from this OTG and it worked perfectly.
"Micro USB Host OTG Cable w/ USB power for Samsung phone i9100 i9300 i9220 9250"
Suggests that the POWER is for the device. This is misleading.
I have now 5 OTG cables at home, NONE of which is capable of charging the actual device. This is upsetting as I only want the OTG for an always connected USB/ethernet in a WIFI-free environment.
I tried it with Tablet and 2 phones. No charging whatsoever
I tried a few different cables and this setup is the only one that would also charge the shield as well as give it ethernet.
Make sure your phone supports whatever USB thing you're trying to use first! Not every phone supports flash drives/ethernet dongles/barcode scanners/USB aquariums/etc. XDA is your friend. Most phones support flash drives, but support for other classes of USB devices is a little harder to find..
In my case I verified ahead of time and it was perfectly plug-n-play. Best price I could find on Amazon, too. Would buy again.
