Get accurate pH measurement easily
The Etekcity® pH meter 2011 is a perfect device for you to test the acidity or alkalinity of liquids. It is very easy to use – just immerse the electrode and you can get the readings. With resolution of 0.01pH and 0.05Ph accuracy, you may get higher accuracy than other pH meters. When ultra accuracy is needed, use the pH 4.0 & 6.86 buffers for calibration.
Ideal for many household or laboratory applications
With a standard measuring range of 0-14 pH, the pH meter 2011 is great for a wide range of tasks. An affordable way to test your swimming pool, aquarium, tap water, or appliance water source, you can finally know whether the water you are drinking or using is acceptable for the application. It is also an excellent choice for basic measurements in a laboratory setting.

When I received the pH meter I tested its accuracy in the lab against our standard buffers. Initially it was way off but that was most likely because it was freezing outside and the pH meter must have been thoroughly chilled on the delivery truck. I let it warm up to room temp for a few hours and tested it again. So here are my observations with the pH meter being at room temperature:
The readings took a long time to stabilize (a couple of minutes maybe) which might or might not be a problem for the user. If you want to do titrations it's probably bad but if you just want to check the pH at any given time it's working fine. One observation, however, worried me. Whenever I got close to the device the pH value changed drastically, sometimes up to 0.5 points! This must have been caused by electrostatics of my clothes or gloves that I was wearing.
The pH meter needed a little tweaking to display the correct pH values according to the standard buffers. I tested 4.01, 7.00, and 10.01 and every time the measured pH was within 0.02 points, so well within the given specs! You will need to gently shake the pH meter after placing it in the solution you're trying to measure to ensure you don't have air bubbles stuck to the electrode.
I also managed to use the pH meter during one of my brew days and it was interesting for sure. Hopefully this will not only be a gadget for "informational purposes only" but also help me improve my beers by mashing at the correct pH.
Calibrating this unit is a breeze. The directions are clear and easy to follow. I like the clip on the side, I use a magnetic stirrer and clip the meter on my beaker and wait for it to stabilize. I checked this unit against my Hach sense-ion and the Etekcity Ph Meter was either .01 off or dead on the hach. I tested raw well water, treated potable water, PH calibrating liquids of 4, 7, and 10, sewer influent, effluent, and mixed liquor. Etek's performed flawlessly. I will never spend hundreds of dollars on a PH meter again, not to mention the $200 on probes every year.
MY OVERALL IMPRESSION is that it is a quality device that will last for some time (we have had it briefly). Calibration is accomplished with distilled water (no tap water) and the included goodies. NOTE: instructions are in Centigrade (Celsius). Comes with storage container which is semi-translucent plastic throughout. In operation the display is illuminated green, and shows momentary continuous readings. No time-out feature has been noted/observed. Make sure to turn it off when done to maximize battery life. Included cover for submersible "business" end of device and pen-style pocket clip (plastic) for mobility. Adjustment tool / mini-screwdriver included. Meter, tool, and instructions all fit in the provided case for storage - nice.
IMPORTANT: do not submerge device beyond the portion where the cap fits as it is not 100% waterproof. Use of centrifugal force to remove excess water after a reading is recommended for longevity of product.
USES: fish tank water maintenance, liquid fish food solutions, liquid plant food/fertilizer solutions, tap water testing, liquid testing of any kind.
CALIBRATION: Included in the packaging is only enough for initial calibration. The device will need to be calibrated again. How often depends on your need for accuracy of readings and duration of, and between, uses as it relates to battery life. The interwebs will give you homemade test solution recipes. If precision is desired you must purchase CALIBRATION / STANDARD REFERENCE SOLUTION which is usually 7.0 pH at 77 *F (25 *C).
THE FUGLY: This was purchased with the intent of testing the pH of... soil. As I watched my wife set up the calibration tidbits i suspected something was awry. Turns out I was right. The fish on the instructions was a big clue.
Some claim that this device, which works on light refraction technology, will work for the purpose of soil pH. Although it may be possible to do this, it was not designed for the task and therefore accuracy is in question. It would be similar to using a cast iron skillet to drive a nail; not the best tool. I'll describe to you what I mean.
In doing some interwebs research I discovered that some rebellious people (or those unsuccessful at a return) *claim* that if you mix a 2:1 ratio soil:distilled water in a container and shake/stir the devil out of it, let sit for 24 hours+ to settle, you can then obtain soil pH results for said sample. How reliable they are I cannot say. In all honesty a french press with soil and boiling distilled water would probably be more accurate. All this seems to be avoidable by simply buying a SOIL TESTER (not this product).
Best wishes, thanks for reading.
The price is right and this PH meter is reasonably accurate when calibrated with the trim-pot but expect to either use a storage solution or soak the electrode for 24-48 hours before use after dry storage.
Tip must be stored in a pH 7 solution until use. It arrives dry and uncalibrated requiring an hour soak before use and mixing 2 buffer solutions with distilled water to calibrate. Then a rinse in distilled water to remove the buffer.
My meter drifted giving different results in the same pool water. Needed to be calibrated before each use.
Went back to PH test strips, but it was too late to return this waste of time to Amazon.
