It also has a thermometer built-in which seems like an odd combo, but I guess could come in useful. It did accurately measure the temp inside my house.
I have yet to travel with this, but plan to on our next trip this fall to ensure that we're not overweight on any of our bags. No more weighing myself on the bathroom scale and then weighing myself again while holding the bag to try and determine weight.
A word of caution, do not try to weigh your toddler by telling him to hold on to the strap while you lift him up off the ground and try to read the display, he will let go and you will punch yourself in the face.
In the packaging, you would find a note from the manufacturer offering you freebies if you leave a positive review on Amazon and therefore, I would take most of the 'good' reviews about this product with a grain of salt.
The product looks very neatly built and can fool you with a metal feel although it is plastic. The luggage strap is strong enough to hold on backpacks, small bags and duffel bags. I am a little hesitant to comment on how it might hold for measuring large suitcases (cabin baggage like your spinners). Although well built, there is a small concern on how well it might hold while you try lifting heavy bags. So word of advice be cautious and test the device while lifting heavy piece of bags. For now when I tried lifting a spinner that was close to 24 kilos around 50 or so lbs it did not have any issues with the test.
The unit itself is pretty utilitarian. It can help in setting your own choice of units (Kgs or Lbs) and also has a neat feature. It does not need you to press a button to lock in the reading while you are lifting a bag. The weight is already locked in while you lift for a couple of secs. You can than remove the bag from the strap and check the reading. This is kinda helpful coz you dont need to bend your neck to check the weight and also there is no fear of weight variation. I tested the weighing scale with 5 pound bags of grocery to just validate how error free the device is considering the reason you buy a scale is to ensure you don't get overcharged in airports for being just a few pounds over limit. So in that regard I should say the device came up pretty close. There was less than 5 to 10% deviation. And sometimes it was a little on the higher side, so maybe it is better safe than sorry.
This device also has a built in temperature scale, not sure how helpful it might be, but it gave close to accurate readings when I check inside my house (with the built in honeywell thermostat). Nifty feature that might be gimmick for some, but maybe if you are out in the woods say camping or something, this might give you a decent temperature reading (but then, most recent smartphones have sensors that can give you temp reading even if you don't have cellular connectivity to check your accuweather reading. So maybe call this a fallback plan :) )
Overall a well built compact scale that can help your travel needs. If I have to be picky I would say a stronger strap and little more premium materials would make this product even better than what it is.
