Edited to add another star and report battery's lifetime!
For first 30 days; never turned it off (relying on its auto shutoff) planning on returning if battery failed.
Original Battery still lasted nine months with many uses per day. This is superior to my 20 year old digital scale requiring nine volt alkaline at least twice as often.
If the gram/ounce switch were on top, it would rate five stars, hope it also lasts 20+ years.
Very light weight which is nice since you have to pick up and turn upside down to change from/to Metric units.
This is unacceptable in kitchen since you are always having to use both while measuring serving sizes, often in same dish. (Cereal in grams and then milk in Fl Ounce, V-8 juice by Ounce and sweetener by the gram etc.)
My (20 year old) current digital scale has four buttons On/Tare, Off, LB/Kg, and a Timer, but it's getting old and working well with logical controls. Etkcity has two buttons; left one is On/Tare/Off and uses time interval and 4% or not for what happens. The right one switches between "Milk" and "Water" I'd been pleased if that one did Metric swap, but for that you need to turn it over and find the hidden metric switch.
Amazon page "From Manufacturer" says: "Power Source (included) 2x AAA batteries" for Kitchen Scale and also "2x AAA batteries" for Bathroom Scale and "1x 3V CR2032 Battery" for Travel Scale. That makes sense for a lighter travel scale. The Etekcity kitchen scale shipped to me needs the "CR2032" Button Cell, not "AAA's" and those are over $5 for one from the Drug Store. Amazon will sell you a whole card full of them for not much more...
Absolutely the best point is that Amazon will give you until January 31st to return it (for inaccurate website description) and I will try and see if I can learn to like it for a little while. My excellent (old) existing scale reads in 5 Gram interval compared to 1 Gram for Etekcity's, but it was reported here that it was only +/- 4 Gram's in accuracy, so that may not be any advantage.

Battery chamber poorly made + scale is too small

I’ve had this scale for about a year and it has definitely served it’s purpose. It’s helped me more accurately measure my food which is what I wanted. The tare function and different units of measurement are helpful. I’m giving it 3 stars because, for the money, it served its purpose for a year. However, I have three main issues with the scale. First, the battery chamber is poorly made. Within the first couple of weeks of owning it, I had to buy replacement lithium batteries because the scale always said “Lo”. Then I found it still said “Lo” even with a brand new battery. When this message comes up, the scale shuts down and you can’t use it. I noticed that the only thing keeping the battery in place is this flimsy metal tab (pictured). It is so finicky sometimes and I have to press down on the battery + tab, often to get it to work. My second issue is that the surface area of the scale is way too small. Putting anything bigger than a small plate, or the bowl it came with, is awkward. I knew how small it would be before buying it, but in practice it’s way more of a hassle than I anticipated. Third, the accuracy when it comes to measuring powdered food is questionable. This has been mainly a problem when I’ve used the scale while baking. I can add a few good tablespoons of a powder, like flour or nutritional yeast, and it will still read as weighing 0 grams, which doesn’t make sense. Again, it served its purpose for a year and for the price is fine, but I’m on the market for a better scale now.
