Accuracy is questionable.

Not sure about the accuracy. I bought this to check surface temp for pizza stone. The temp of the stone and the dome temp of your grill / cooker may vary, so they recommend checking it with one of these. So I made a glass of ice water in my yeti cup. After sitting for several minutes it read 32.9 F. Then I check it again after a few more minutes and it’s sporadic, 37.2F, 34.7 F. I checked it from 12” away, which should measure a spot roughly 1” diameter, according to the instructions (make sure the surface area is at least twice the corresponding spot diameter. So a 4” cup opening at 12” distance should be sufficient. It finally settled in at 33.9 several times in a row. Ok, I can live with that on the low side. Then I boiled water to check the 212 degree bench mark. Same thing. I moved it closer, I moved it farther away. I checked it at a rolling boil and it was 226 and different every time. I even turned down the stovetop until the water had barely reached boiling. Same thing. Never the same twice. Might vary 15-20 degrees sometimes. I just wish they included some steps or some ways to ensure the accuracy or to calibrate it against a known temperature, like ice water, or boiling water. Some will say, well it’s only a few degrees off. 15-20 is more than a few, especially since the whole point of measuring the temp is to be as close to exact as possible. If we are going to have to guess at the temp, I can do that without this device. If your pizza burns, it’s too effing hot.

I'm a single lady with a house and I bought 2 of these handy bad boys because they sounded like a super cool gadget, wasn't sure what i'd use them for bought it anyway. WOW - i've used this gadget almost everyday! I've checked that the air coming out of my AC is cold, what the temperature is in different rooms in my house, and 25 ft ceilings, if my pizza is safe to eat without getting pizza palate, I also insulated the compressor pipe on the outside of my house. Used this gadget to see what the temperature difference was with and without the insulation. Right now a friend is borrowing it for AC issues as well. All in all - just buy this!!! I bought one for my dad and grandfather too!
