ONE VERY PISSED CUSTOMER!

I have never been so PISSED in my life! - Buyers beware!!!

I just bought two (2) of these Etekcity USB 3.0 10-Port Hubs brand new. I received them both. When I hooked them up one started to work and the second one was DOA right out of the box so I sent an email to Amazon Returns and Etekcity. After some time I received an email back from Tyler at Etekcity informing me that I would just have to pay to return the DOA hub and then rebuy another through Amazon again.

I got an RMA return authorization number and label through Amazon, packaged the one dead hub back up and took it to the USPS office and paid $7.90 to have their hub shipped back to Etekcity at Amazon.

When I returned home I found the other hub had quit working too! Now I have two dead hubs from Etekcity right out of the box. What the hell!

I got on the phone and called Etekcity (during working hours 9-5 in Iowa where their based) only to get recording after recording. NO ONE answered the phone during their own business hours. I left three messages on their different phone recordings to call me ASAP. As yet, NO returned call back.

Now what does Etekcity expect me to do? I have to package this second DOA hub back up and send it back to them and being charged another $7.90 for the second hub to be shipped back to them by USPS mail again? This is bull s***! What kind of products do they carry that are DOA straight out of the box?

As of right now - they have not taken care of me at all. I had to pay to have them shipped to me. I`m having to pay twice, $16 for shipping AGAIN back to them, and then they expect me to reorder from them again? What the hell!

NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE, they only have tape recordings.

It's hard to write a negative review when there are so many positive ones, but here goes. I've got the Etekcity 10 port plugged in to my Macbook Pro Retina USB 3.0 and my 3.0 hard drives work just fine. But my 2.0 headset doesn't work, my Samsung dvd drive doesn't work and my 2.0 Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner doesn't work. The computer simply doesn't see any of these devices. Totally disappointed. (FYI, when I plug each of those "doesn't work" devices into a USB 2.0 hub, they all work just fine.)

The device worked great for a little less than six months and then it just quit. Checked the power supply and it worked fine. Disappointed that it did not last very long. Contacted Etekcity via email and they did get back to me quickly but said there was no extended warranty and that it was outside of their 30 day policy. Threw it in the electronics recycling and purchased a higher end business hub with a five year warranty.

Honestly, I expected better, but it works well enough. Here's the main issues:

1. One third of the ports do not work under windows 7, but work fine under OS X
2. The ports are misaligned with the holes in the plastic, so it takes a bunch of fiddling to get the plugs oriented correctly to actually slide in.
3. It's not as fast as the other USB 3 hub I replaced it with.

This hub is quite sturdy and well weighted, which means it won't get jerked around easily by whatever's connected to it. The ports are spaced well, so fat USB plugs can be accommodated even when adjacent ports are being used.

The power buttons are useful, but really only for disconnecting peripherals like game controllers and webcams; you don't want to disconnect any sort of USB storage without first informing the operating system.

After extensively researching for a multi-port Hub supporting USB 3.0, it came down to Etekcity's High Speed 10 Port USB Hub and Anker's powered 9 port USB. The deciding factor for me was the price here as this was almost $25 cheaper than Anker.

It takes a beating from Anker when it comes to looks. However if you are like me (Function over form), then you would love this.

Usage:
I have so far connected devices on 8 of the 10 ports and my iPhone plugs into the charging port and everything is working fine.
3 Seagate Portables
1 Western Digital Portable
1 Seagate Desktop HDD
1 Bluetooth Dongle
1 Logitech Mouse Receiver
1 Keyboard

Pros:
- All 10 ports turn into USB 3.0 ports meaning you can connect upto 10 USB 3.0 Devices.
Its a major plus if have only one USB 3.0 on your system (like me) and have multiple USB 3.0 devices.
If you are transferring from/to multiple devices, keep in mind, that the speed will be regulated by the 1 port on your machine and you wouldn't see USB 3.0 speeds on all of them simultaneously.
- Light and compact
- Ports are well spaced
- Multiple on/off switches (3) to control the devices you want to keep turned off when not in use

Cons:
- Heavy separate power adapter.
- Not much else in this section.

Overall, its a very good buy and good value for money.

I had opened the hub and plugged it into a surge protector, several seconds later I smell smoldering plastic and see small amounts of smoke coming out of one of the usb connections. I don't know if the one I received was defective or it is a inherent design. I will be returning this as I do not wish to cause a fire.
