2009 Eternal Press
Eternal Desires is set in New Orleans on Halloween. Liz Beth a paranormal investigator is returning to her family's home town to find her shadowy lover- Quillon. She has traveled around the world while battling ghosts, ghouls, witches, demons, and vampires all the while looking for the shadowy romantic figure that visits her in her dreams.
She is told of Quillon by her grandmother who seemed to posses the same gift as she. Her grandmother told that one day she would get to know the romantic stranger as well. Liz Beth longs to feel hre dreamer lover in real life.
But while in New Orleans, she meets Christien, a real life man who seduces her. He invites her to the Vampire Ball and Dark Masquerade where her two world's collide. Adventure awaits both Liz Beth and the reader in this wonderful novella- Eternal Desires.
Well, let me say first that I have never been a fan of erotic romance...i don't know if some is too graphic or it's just the conservative southern girl in me but I gave this book a chance and I have to say it is PERFECTLY mixed of plot and eroticism.
I only blushed at a few spots but I will say Ms. Rhoads is an artist with words. She very tastefully wove the romance with the love scenes making the reader feel as if true romance and chivalry were still here.. ( and no I am not saying it's dead..it's just sometimes hard to find.)
Her description of New Orleans- the places, the smells, the atmosphere were right on. I recently returned from a trip there with my college fantasy book club and I could close my eyes and picture where scenes took place in the book. Her descriptions were very detailed, colored and accurate.
The story was also very good. The ending..I did not see coming..so that says a lot. I only wish I knew either more about the character or had a prequel leading up to this story and even a sequel telling more of Liz Beth's romantic paranormal adventures. I would love to read more of this heroine and her adventure.

Roxanne easily sets the tone of Halloween time not only with her words, but with her vivid description of New Orleans. While I have never been there, after reading Eternal Desire, I now feel like I have. The dark streets with the vibrant party energy, the streets and the stores, as well as the activities and smells all came together to build this place where the unbelievable could so easily become believable. It was the perfect backdrop.
Another well-honed trick Mrs. Rhoads employed was to use universal themes that in or out of context can easily apply to all. I believe this gives a reader a starting point of comparison to help them really connect with the story. For example, when comparing Quillon and Christian, her duo of heroes, she says "I felt myself being torn between a shadow and a stranger." We have all felt like that at some time being torn between our ingrained thoughts--the shadow, and something else new to us from the outside world--the stranger. In doing this the reader should now know exactly how Liz Beth, the heroine fells.
In between the desperately hot scenes, for me the story weaved in-between the obvious and the mysterious well or enough that just when you think you have it figured out there is still enough lingering doubt to press you forward. However, I was left with a few questions unanswered, which is okay, because I loved the story and therefore am hoping for a sequel.
Liz Beth is a paranormal researcher who now finds herself in the hottest spot for the paranormal, the one and only New Orleans! What brings her to New Orleans you ask? The hottest, most sensual vampire that's haunted her dreams for practically her entire life is her reason. But is this vampire real or just a figment of her paranormal imagination that she allows to guide her and protect her in times of need? Well, she gets a bit side tracked when she meets the most delicious male specimen she's ever encountered and things get beyond hot and out of control.
Christien is a complete mystery to us (as well as to Liz Beth). We know he's handsome, mysterious, a hard worker and he knows how to take care of a woman in many ways! But is he friend or foe? What are his intentions (other than giving Liz Beth the best intimate times she's ever experienced) toward Liz Beth in the long run? Christien has secrets that he will reveal, but will we still see him the same in the end?
I have one BIG question... Is there going to be a book 2? I was really left wanting more and have some unanswered questions lingering (constantly) in the back of my mind. That's actually the only reason why I did not 5 star this baby. It really is worthy of a fiver :)
