The choir is wonderful. However, I expected the entire song! The first verse is fine, but it's the rest of the song that makes it so moving, and truly great. The verses honor each of the different "kinds" of sailors... As a Navy wife I am particularly fond of the verse that honors the Navy Diver's and submariners... 'neath the sea, instead of on the sea. All of us who love the song, long to hear the verse that describes our husbands! As it cost me nothing, I can't complain...but as a Diver's wife who has seen the loss of many divers over the years, it was very disappointing.

A beautiful hymn. Although I've used the text for a sermon to land lubbers, connecting the theme of being "on the sea" of life in need of God's help, this is really for us salty dogs who have served before the mast. The chorus is good and I personally like the idea of a multitude of voices, a crew if you will, joined together to call upon God. For those of us that have faced the restless waves of the earth and human violence we know the power of joined shipmates bent to the task. This version is in my will for my funeral, right after Take this job and shove it.

I am the descendent of Navy veterans. This hymn has always meant a lot to my family. It was played at my father's memorial service with the addition of the ringing of "eight bells". The "eight bells" signifies end of watch. I also played it without the benefit of eight bells at my husband's memorial service. He was also a Navy veteran. I have a small Bible that I inherited from my grand uncle through my father. This Bible was given to Uncle by his home church during WWII. In the back of this Bible are several hymns...the Navy Hymn (also known as Eternal Father, Strong to Save) is one of those.

I am at a loss for words as to what this piece means to me. It was one of my motivating factor in joining the Navy and symbolizes the love of God and team work that I experienced while on a ship for battle.

This is arrangement of the Navy Hymn is two minutes in length. It begins with instruments and voices humming the melody and than there is a mixed voice chorus which sings the first stanza of Eternal Father, Strong to Save. It is a very moving arrangement. I used this arrangement immediately following the playing of an instrumental version of the same hymn in a funeral service and it was very well received. Better than live playing.

When I hear this music, I will always recall how often it played after JFKennedy was assainated. I didn't know what the music was at that time, but I soon learned it was the US Navy Hymn. I can't ever hear it, that all those images and feelings of sorrow rush back to my mind. It is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I am so pleased to have it in my collection of special music.

I retired from the Navy in 1976. It's been quite a long time since I heard it and it really touched me. We normally didn't hear it except during a funeral. Thanks for making this Hymn available for me.

As a 21 year veteran I would like to personally thank Amazon for this music free for Veterans Day. The official bands of the US Armed Forces are second to none. Trust me if you ever have a chance to hear them in person, do it and you will never forget the experience.
