Vampires are one of my favorite paranormal creatures and honestly I would love to write a story about them. However, there are a gazillion books out there about vampires, and I didn't want my book to be adrift in a sea of other similar tales. But then one day I came across Eternal Service, and I realized I was wrong. You can write a story about vampires that will out shine all the other ones, you just have to step outside the box, and that's what Regina did with Eternal Service. It's about an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States.

At first I wasn't sure I'd get into the story because I'm not fond of cop/CSI, type stories, but what won me over was this fresh new idea: vampires secretly working for the government. I had to read it, and Regina's creative mind did not disappoint me.

Vampires have been protecting the President of the United States since Lincoln was assassinated. They form a special op team known as The Colony. It's funded through the President's Black Budget, and Congress is not even aware of its existence. They work covertly with the Secret Service as the presidential security.

Raymond Metcalf is a head of The Colony which is like a clan. He's tall, dark, and handsome and once was a soldier in the Civil War.

Some of the vampires have special abilities. Raymond can read thought patterns. Raymond is an honorable man who had lost his beloved wife in childbirth over a century ago. She was human and had a son. Sterling is his name. He's a half-breed: half vampire and half human. Purebred vampires, frown upon Sterling's kind, which is another story in itself. But anyway, Raymond loves his wife Wilma dearly and stays in mourning for over a hundred years, living a lonely life-until he meets Alex.

I am loving this book! Finally a twist on the ever-popular paranormal romance set... although I love those too... this book adds a realistic factor not found in most others, in that this takes place in "our" world, rather than "their" world. The characters are thoughtful and well-developed, the storyline is addicting, and the whole package is just plain fun. Can't wait for the next installment!

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

It is a really intriguing story, of modern, evolved, day walking vampires, living and working alongside the public.
These vampires no longer, normally, feed from humans, instead injecting or drinking blood for sustenance. They have also evolved
to the point that if they regulate their intake of blood, they can control their ageing or youthfulness to suit, therefore fooling the
human public. This is a new take on the traditional vampire, with these ones being able to impregnate humans or vampires, thereby
having either half-breed or full bred offspring.
Our vampire/human combination are in charge of the contingency that guard the President of America. Vampires although living among humans,
are still a secret, so they need a human to front things and to lead this branch of security.

I was excited to get this book, but really couldn't get into it. I just couldn't find a connection with the
characters, and felt there was no vibrancy to their relationship. I like for the characters of a book to connect with me, I like to feel
their emotions, but i just didn't get that with this story.
I found I struggled at times with the dialogue between the two main characters, Raymond, our vampire, and Alex, our human,
and at times felt their conversations seemed almost childlike.

There were also a few several grammatical errors, that did become more noticeable as I read on. I
totally understand that this is minor and it happens with self published books.

All in all I can sadly only stretch to 2 1/2 stars.

WOW! I really enjoyed this book. I’m not a big vampire fan but loved the originality and the authors writing style. Regina, the author, has written a well crafted, well thought out, creative story that I envisioned as being a great TV series as I was reading it.
She managed to bring vamps into todays world with all the high tech necessities and abilities to blend in with the living.
"The Colony” is a special ops team secured to protect the president. Within this team are families with emotions, different talents and skills, and rules to live by.
Alex, a dedicated agent, is promoted and becomes the Colony Director, who will co-ordinate between the president, the agency, and the vampires in The Colony.
As the story unfolds, Alex learns more about the vampires abilities and needs, along with the reader. But another interesting storyline is the sexual tension that develops between Alex and Raymond, who is in charge of the clan.
Both Alex and Raymond have obstacles to overcome in order for them to get together. will they or won’t they?
This author has thought this all out and you are not left hanging with parts that do not match up. Questions will be answered. This story has it all tension, humor, seduction, mystery, and drama.
Well what can I say, every other reviewer has covered about everything I’d like to say SO speaking for myself, what more can I say to prove I loved it but that I bought United Service (The Colony Book 2)!!!!!
