Wonder and work able index comes with this one which is quite handy since reading one work after anther would be a bore and I like the option of being able to browse and read what I want when I want.
Wharton is a rather unique literary voice and most who read her work will agree that she can indeed write and write well.
I highly recommend this one.
Wharton is a master of accurate characterization, presentation of the most telling details, and rich plot. But the greatest treat about reading the works of Edith Wharton is her writing itself - elegant, impeccable. emotionally resonant, and possessing a perfection of tone applied to each different situation.
Her stories tend to be rather dismal and nihilistic, but they are well-written and one can see why she is in the literary canon. It is a shame that female writers aren't read more often as part of the canon-- historical context seems to be forgotten when schools consider what is worth reading (for example, of course Austen's works address social circles and family-- because women's main realms were at home and in social events/circles in the time period). After all, writer write what they know...for Wharton, that is the world of the poor and rural struggling working class, and all the existential issues that go along with human life.
