"...a lot is packed into ETHAN and if you're a big softy like me make sure you have some tissues handy. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and balled like a big ol' baby over one particularly emotionally gripping scene..." ~ Rhi Reading

"...Ethan is a fantastic edition to the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series, and can be read before you start the series, or at any point during it. Don't miss this look into Ethan's mind and heart..." ~ Love is Not a Triangle

It's always exciting when an author presents the opportunity to read from your book boyfriend's point of view. What I absolutely love about "Ethan", is that the author is proficient enough in her writing that it can read before or after the first installment in the Brightest Kind of Darkness series.  I'm sure it's preferable to read it before, it is a prequel after all, but I enjoyed reading it after. It only deepened the connection with the male protagonist.

"Ethan" takes place right before he started school with Nara and ends where they spoke for the first time. It's a preview of his life before Nara made an entrance and we get the nitty-gritty on just how infatuated he is with her. It's also a revelation of his heart breaking trials. Ethan truly has a beautiful heart. This book lays the foundation for other events to take place in future books. It would be best to not pass it up. I couldn't fathom why anyone would even think it.

To add to the list of its many perks, it is FREE!

Not being a young adult, but loving this author, I took a chance and began this series with this book. I wondered if I would be able to relate to the young adults and the subject matter and plot, however it wasn't too terribly long before I was caught up in the twists and turns. This book is definitely worth the read.

I am such a fan of this series and I fell in love with Ethan in book one, Brightest Kind of Darkness. In book two, Lucid, we didn't actually get to see that much of him, but his presence was there nonetheless. The first two books are told from Nara's point of view, so I was really excited to be able to read this novella, in Ethan's point of view, enabling you to get to know him, what he was thinking, and what went on from his perspective before and up unto the bombing in the beginning of book one. There is such a drastic change in Ethan from the beginning of Brightest Kind of Darkness and the ending of Lucid. Ethan has encountered so much darkness, so much pain, and the bright spot in all of that is Nara. I loved seeing how he felt about her, even from the beginning. She is his light. Ethan is an enigma, which becomes obvious as the series progresses. He is also so very hot, dark, mysterious, powerful, and dominating. His is a dark world, and we've only begun to see what it is about. The next book in the series, Destiny, will release in October, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it and find out more about Ethan. If you haven't read this series, it is truly wonderful and I definitely would recommend it.

Ethan is a prequel novella to the Brightest Kind of Darkness series and a great addition to this wonderful series!
I really love Ethan as a character. He is truly a tortured character but somehow manages to rise about that and be a rather perfect Book Boyfriend! He is smart and strong, brave and compassionate. It is hard to come away from this look at Ethan and not feel for him.

Although this is a prequel and set in the weeks leading up to Book 1, I would recommend reading this after Book 1. The author states that it can be read before or after, and I feel like it adds a layer to a character we already know when reading it after. It really helps you understand the character that you meet in Brightest Kind of Darkness.

Things to love about Ethan...

--Ethan as a person. He is truly an interesting character, tortured but not emo... which I hate.
--The details. I read this after BKoD, but I loved the details between Ethan and BKoD, tying them together in a slightly different way, from a slightly different perspective than in BKoD.

My recommendation: A definite must read .for the series, which I also recommend. A great series and Ethan is a great addition to it.

Oh my Ethan! I did not think I could love Ethan any more, but I was completely wrong! I just loved getting inside his head and seeing what it is really like to be him. This novella gives you real insight into his character and starts to break down the walls we have when viewing him through Nara's eyes.

I think we all know that Ethan is a dark character, but I don't think we could ever fully grasp just how dark of a character he really is. He is not a bad guy, not at all, but like I said he is dark. Ethan struggles with a lot and his life is far from easy. Between the horrifying dreams, practically nonexistent relationship with his parents, living with a brother who cares but just doesn't fully understand, and having to pretend to be normal is a lot to take in and deal with. Speaking of his dreams, we are finally able to experience what they are really like. They are more horrifying than we were ever led to believe. Ethan can really feel the dreams and they affect him more deeply than I ever imagined.

All in all, Ethan is a fantastic prequel novella. It really helps you to understand his character and you finally see why he acted the way he did in Lucid. I loved seeing the events that led up to Ethan and Nara's first interaction. I loved seeing Nara become Ethan's only source of lightness in his very dark world. I just loved it all really. Fans of this series, you need to read this.
