Seems like this product has been on the shelf for a long time. The rubberized cable is nearly dry-rotted, not at all slick or smooth. Likewise, the cables are very easy to get tangled. I own seven (7) other pairs of Etymotic earbuds, and I've never had this issue. However, besides that one problem, they work quite well -- except that Etymotic did NOT include SMALL earbud tips. So, if you have small ear canals, you'll need to go to Etymotic's website and spend another fifteen to twenty bucks on small ear tips. Worth it? Yes, but an unnecessary hassle.
Love Etymotic everything. Friendly company via Email or phone. Recommend so-called "baby blue" small triple flange silicone tips for small ear canals. Several different types ship, but are all medium to large ear canal size. You'll pay twelve dollars for five pairs of smalls (blue or clear); definitely worth it. Mic works great. Love it.
I live in NYC and ride the subway everyday. These headphones protect my ears from the loud noise of passing trains and also allow me to listen to music or podcasts at a normal volume.
be sure to get the cleaning kit and extra ear buds. the filters get clogged every 3-6 months but are easily replaced. The earbuds eventually wear out and aren't as effective at blocking noise and need to be replaced every 6 months or so.
