Top customer reviews
First let me say this is a great little vac in the context or what it is. It is not a full power, whole house vacuum cleaner and not what one should buy if that's what you want. Also, it doesn't cost $300+ so there may be better cordless vacuums. But for for 40 dollars or less, it would be hard to do better. I have a more powerful cordless Dirt Devil that doesn't perform as well. Because of it's direct air flow design, this littel gem is actually better. We have a Dyson ball, but find this is a great little companion.
As the name implies, it's designed for quick pickups and excells at this. We bought one many years ago when the batteries were internal. We used it almost daily for quick pickups for maybe 10+ years before it finally wore out. The replacement I bought through Amazon maybe 4 years ago. Many of the reviews said the batteries just didn't last but we had been really pleased with the last one so took a chance. Great shipping and service by the way.
We bought the one with two batteries. After a couple of years performance dropped of and I bought a new battery. That one didn't give good performance for even a year. We were getting ready to throw it away thinking the motor was worn out or there was a bad connection. I couldn't believe the battery was actually bad. I'm pretty handy so decided to take a look at it first. Took it appart and found it to be fine and well enough designed so that connections wouldn't fail because vibration. Brushes looked good. Often we overlook the most simple and obvious. When everything looked good inside, I went back to the battery. What I found was corrosion on the battery contacts. Unlike a cordless drill, flashlight, or the old model where the battery was soldered in, there is no latch or spring to hold the battery tightly against the vacuum contacts. The resulting vibration caused spark erosion on the battery terminals. The black carbon build-up acted as insulation between the battery and the vacuun which was the problem. Spark plugs use platnum to prevent spark erosion, but typically batteries don't because they are locked in. The terminals are thinly plated but what do you expect. The corrosion also affects charging. Anyway, scraping with a screwdriver was all that was needed and even the old batteries run like new. So before you buy a new battery, throw away, or rate poorly, see if this tip won't return your performance and keep you satisfied. We continue to be.
I was considering buy another battery pack, but figured it would just get baked by the cheapo charger and we would have the same issue. The individual subc-cells could be replaced, but same issue would occur, it would just be less expensive. Then I considered different battery technology like li-ion, but the start-up current was too much - so I tried a powerwheels lead acid battery and the vacuum has lasted a month on one charge and has not shown any signs of slowing down.
Long story short - if your unit's batteries are crap, do a little modding and wire up a small 6 volt 4.5 ah lead acid battery. I'll attach a couple pictures of what I did. The cable hanging off is so a smart lead acid charger (battery buddy) can be plugged in and it will charge without baking the battery.
First, let me say that I have a dog. A collie mix named "Tater Tot". She is the love of my life. She sheds. All the time. Every season. I brush her all the time. Seriously, all the time. Still, dog hair all over my house. All the time. "Tater hair, everywhere" is an often muttered phrase in my household.
I've attached a picture so you can see the level of "furriness" of said dog.
My partner and I moved into a house with wood floors at the end of last year. We have a few low pile carpets here and there, but nothing very big. I "had" been using our Bissell Helix Upright Vacuum. I've had it for 2 years. But it just didn't seem to be doing the job at our new house. Even after cleaning it and washing out the filter. It seemed like it needed some support in the cleaning arena, so I decided to shop around for a stick vacuum. The reviews for this, especially with pet hair were great. So I decided to give it a try.
I didn't consider this thing a "real vacuum" when I ordered it. I thought that I would use it to help with the pet hair. I was in for a shock . . .
If some salesperson would have told me that this little stick of a thing would GREATLY outperform my Bissell upright, I would have laughed in their face. For real, for real.
But now, after two weeks of use, the Bissell is on the curb. It sucks, and not in the way that it should.
The Eureka picks up everything but rocks. No lie! This is the cleanest my floors have been in 6 months. And, the handheld vacuum part has done a great job of getting Tater hair off my furniture! I had no idea that we were living in filth. But apparently, we were.
The fact that it comes with two batteries is a god send. You'll need them both to clean your house. My house it not quite a Tiny House, but it's close. Also, do order another filter. The other reviews were right. This things picks up so much dirt and hair you'll need the back up one while you're cleaning the dirty one.
In conclusion, the reviews for this vacuum are on point. I rarely wright reviews. But this little miracle has inspired me to a reach out to my fellow consumers! Varely, this is a vacuum worthy of praise!
