Weak Compared to the Books That Came Before

I picked up one of the books in this series when it was offered for free. I quickly became hooked on the series and have now read the first 5 books. While I have a couple of complaints, overall the series has been well worth the read, and I know I will be purchasing the remaining books soon.

Complaint #1: As has been mentioned by other reviewers, there are many spelling and grammar errors that slipped by the editor (if there was one), and this appears to be true of all of the books in the series, at least through the first 5 that I have read. A word to Indie authors -- recruit more people to read your work and look for errors! While this really turns some people off, I found it only a minor nuisance. It has not prevented me from enjoying the stories.

Complaint #2: The pace is way too slow in some places. I'm not a reader who has to have non-stop action from beginning to end. Slower moments can be used effectively to help us understand the characters and the situation, but in more than one of the books, some of these slow moments went on way too long and I found myself skimming the pages instead of reading them so that I could get to something more interesting.

As for this particular book, I found it to be a little weaker than the books that preceded it (hence only 3 stars where I would give the series as a whole 4 stars). Too much of the "slow moments." Also, the characters of John and Colin bothered me even more than in book 4. When reading fiction, it's not uncommon for readers to need to occasionally disconnect themselves from reality a bit in order to make the plot work, and I see nothing wrong with this depending on how often it happens and just how far I have to disconnect. The actions that John was getting away with at school, and the treatment of Colin by staff and students went more than a little overboard, in my opinion. I particularly was bothered with the scene in this book where Colin stops for the stranded motorists. He knows things are falling apart. News of civil unrest is constant. The police officer warns him of trouble, yet he stops for people he doesn't know, notices all sorts of signs that there's something suspicious going on and ignores them, etc. I have grandchildren half his age that wouldn't make the mistakes he made. It just didn't ring true.

In spite of these weaknesses, I could encourage you to read the Comet Clement series. I think you will enjoy it.

I feel Mr. George is a good writer since he continues to hold my interest in the fate of Earth and his many characters. I just wish he employed an good editor; too many typos, I'm caught wrong words, and mistakes. A good editor would have caught nearly all the mistakes IF they had read the book. I realize I tend to read each and every word, when I read a book, so it is frustrating when I catch silly mistakes -- wrong words used or misspellings -- because they weren't hidden or buried within lengthy sentences. They would have been caught IF the book has been read!

I LOVED this book! It is 5 in a series of 12 and I started with it since it was offered free through Book Bub. After reading a few of the comments about editing errors, however, I had no intention of downloading it and commented accordingly on one of the reviews. The author quickly responded to my comments and those of others, which led me to change my mind. He took full responsibility for the editing errors and advised he was working to resolve that issue. In his comments, he came across as someone whose books I wanted to try. After reading Evacuation Earth, I can attest to that being the case. Even though the book is almost half-way through the series, it is definitely a stand-alone work. The back story is covered well enough that I never felt as though I was missing critical details (although I certainly want to go back and read the other 4 since I know how engrossing they will be). Overlooking the editing errors (which is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5), the book is extremely well written and the numerous characters are well developed. It is a very suspenseful, engrossing, enjoyable novel by an indie author who has certainly gained my respect and support. Thanks for what you do, Kevin George!

The book is interesting and provides a unique perspective perspective on three alternative methods to try and survive. It is long and I think the author could HP have combined a very of the later chapters into fewer books. They are not really sequels but a continuation of the same story. One last point… the editing of the book gets worse in the later chapters. Missing or extra words are present giving the impression that the author or his editor got tired due to the length of the book.

All of Kevin George's books on the Comet Clement series have been page turners, I love the premise, the style of writing, and the cliffhangers, I haven't been able to put the books down, As each one finishes I buy the next one in the series, and am on book 10, The plot is worthy of having a few films, out of it. A full series of films, It is quite frankly the best piece of Science fiction dystopian Earth that I have read, all the more so because it could quite well happen. Comets appear all the time and it wouldn't take much for one to hit. The Heroes and Characters are well thought out and are introduced well, and we get to hear about them in a realistic way. Human nature in all its forms is portrayed. It makes it realistic and very addictive to read. I am so happy that I have had the chance to read these books. Im sure you will be too. I speed read so each book takes me about 4 hours, which is ideal. Unfortunately I read through the night because you are spellbound to see what happens next. This author grabs your attention and holds it. At no point do you feel that the book has disappointed you. I havent had this much fun reading for ages.

I am enjoying this series, however I have one criticism of these books: please get somebody to proof read them! There are a noticably high amount of grammatical errors. Words are being missed out, and often used incorrectly; somebody was once accused of "rebel-rousing" (the term is rabble-rousing), and a plan was considered "full-proof" (fool-proof), and the amount of times I've come across characters that "could care less" (that means you do care!). Somebody needs to proof-read, and grammar-check, the books. Other than that, good work!
