The characters in this story are so well written and developed, you feel a deep connection with them...or hate for them. And the storyline grips you right from the beginning. But you will be left wanting! Wanting more!! Definitely leaves you at a cliff hanger NEEDING to know what happens and guessing with so many possibilities! I have many theories, and I can’t wait to see how wrong or right I am. Full of fun chuckle worthy moments, including a Scooby reference!, scary situations that leave you wide eyed, and anger inducing rage for some of the people in the book that I found myself yelling at them while reading. This page turner is a must read!
Speaking of Casey… Two words. Bad. Ass, I love her. Her snarkiness. Her combat skills. Her witty inner monologue. I just adore her.
Now let’s talk cliff hangers. E.M. Rinaldi left me slack jaw with my mouth gaping open and shaking my head. There must be more pages, right? Amazon had a glitch and lost a few pages. WRONG! But don’t let that be a turn off. This tale has action, suspense, murder and secrets galore. It simply wasn’t possible to put it all in one book. Rest assured, I will be stalking this author relentlessly until I get more.
I really liked Casey and her sarcastic personality. She was a really fun character who didn't need anyone to rush in and save the day. In fact, I loved all the characters (except the villains). They were very unique, and I got to know them pretty well throughout the book.
I also really enjoyed the author's writing style. The description and word choice were very well done, and the author had me invested in the story the whole way through. I also liked how the romance was done. It was mildly there, but there wasn't any insta-love or a love triangle. Also, Casey doesn't turn into a love-sick teen. She's more interested in protecting the people around her.
Though Casey starts to develop some abilities, I liked that I couldn't instantly guess what made her special. I can't wait to learn more about why she is the way she is.
There is some swearing, but I liked how it added to Casey's character.
Overall, this is a quick read that was a lot of fun. It leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions but also a lot of promise for the rest of the series. I can't wait for the next book!
Orphaned at a young age, Casey is raised by a friend of her mothers at the academy in which she attends. There she’s being trained to become a future guardian despite being the outcast. And even though she doesn’t display any magical qualities, the girl can definitely kick some butt and hold her own against the bullies at school. A quality—along with her sarcastic sassiness—that made me love her character from the start. Throw in a fae with glitchy powers, the beginning of a budding romance between Casey and her bestie Cedric (because who doesn’t love a little bit of romance here and there), a demented head Dean of the school with torturous capabilities, and a prophecy that’s about to turn Casey’s world upside down, and you’re looking at a book you can’t stop reading. I know I couldn’t. And then that ending…ahhh...with a cliffhanger like that, I’ll definitely be rushing off to read the next in the series. Well done, E.M. Rinaldi!
The only comment I have is for the next book to be longer!! This waiting a year betwixt novels is gonna kill me!
Amazing Job E.M!! You're a diamond in the rough my dear!
