About the Author
Award-winning author, speaker and educator Daniel Blanchard has been an inner city school teacher and coach for the last two decades. He has taught both regular mainstream education and special education at all three levels; elementary, middle, and high school. Presently, Dan is teaching special education at Connecticut’s largest inner city high school. Dan has also participated on many leadership committees on the school and district levels, as well as in the community. Recently, Dan was once again chosen to be on the Professional Development and Teacher Evaluation Committee for his school district. He was also with the State Team that put forth the new Social Studies Frameworks, and has just been appointed to be a member of the Special Education Advisory Council to the Connecticut State Department of Education. Dan is also a local teachers’ union officer on the District Level and a committee member on the State Level. Recently Dan had been chosen by the American Federation of Teachers of Connecticut as the face and voice of educational reform in Connecticut. Dan has completed 14 years of college and has earned seven degrees. His publications consist of a myriad of both weekly and monthly columns, as well as the Granddaddy’s Secrets teen leadership book series. He is also a contributing author to the 10th edition of, Teaching in the Middle and Secondary Schools, as well as a book soon to be released by the American Federation of Teachers of Connecticut on mainstream teachers writing common core aligned lesson plans that include English Language Learners and Students With Disabilities in their mainstream classroom. Both, Bill Corbett’s, The Expert Guide to Teenagers, and January Jones’, Priceless Personalities have chapters written about Dan. In addition, Dan is a double veteran of our United States Armed Forces, serving both in the Army and the Air Force. Finally, Dan lives in northeastern Connecticut, the quiet corner, with his wife, their five children and family dog.
