This is one of my favorite movies of all time! From start to finish, you get the WORD with a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down. Not everyone is ready for the unadulterated Gospel. However, if you can present truth that is relatable, with practical applications, you can foster a faith that will grow to seek the meat that is required for mature belief in the God who holds the world in His hands. I must have seen this movie fifty times since 2007 and every time, I find another gem! Last night, I watched Evan Almighty with my son, who was not born when the film first aired, but who is now 12 years old. He has also seen the movie before, but last night, he did a review of the film and even showed me things I had not seen. For example, my initials are SRG and the manufacturer's emblem on the GPS is GRS. There are so many stand-out points in this film that I still endear me today as much as they did at my first viewing. I can even watch it again tonight... and I think I will.

I love both BRUCE and EVAN in this ALMIGHTY series. Bruce Almighty is definitely the better movie, but I still give EVAN five stars.

I know that God has a sense of humor. Not only am I sure that he has enjoyed these movies, along with OH GOD and many other movies that let us see different views of the Almighty and of Heaven, I believe he may have provided some inspiration along the way.

Can you imagine what you would do if God gave you his powers for a day? What if you could hear everyone's prayers? What would you hear? Now, watch these two funny movies and see how close you came to the hilarity that ensued when all of this happened to two very funny people.

These two movies do come in a two-pack, but I decided to get the two single title editions (for just a few dollars more) so that I'd have the extra features (though I'm finally learning that I can frequently find the extra features on YouTube).

In both movies, supposedly average people get the chance to become God. It starts out fun, but they eventually realize they need to get serious, and learn more about themselves, and about God, in the process, realizing how hard of a job God really has, while still having fun along the way.

The humorous situations are out of this world, and I enjoy watching them again and again. Now that I own these DVD's, I plan to watch them at least every year. I love when they make a connection with old movies, like the promise that Jimmy Stewart made to Donna Reed in It's A Wonderful Life which Bruce fulfills in the first movie (I don't think this counts as a spoiler unless you are a lucky guesser).

I highly recommend both BRUCE and EVAN ALMIGHTY, but if you have never seen either movie, watch BRUCE ALMIGHTY first. It will help set you up for the second, EVAN, movie.

What better way to bond with the family than building an arc for the great flood God warned about. That’s the premise of Evan Almighty as Steve Carell is a new congressman who neglects his wife and kids for his job. He gets shaken out of that when Morgan Freeman as God appears and tells him he’s got a job for him to do. Carell plays his usual everyman role. I liked when Freeman first showed up and freaked out Carell. That led to a lot of funny moments. You can imagine what happens when two of every animal starts showing up at his house. That’s what the movie does best setting up comedic moments. Mixed in with that is a little environmental message as well.

Evan Almighty is the follow up to Bruce Almighty but is a stand alone film and very much different in how it looks and feels overall when compared to Bruce Almighty. Steve Carell playing Evan Baxter as a congressman who is assigned a task by God (Morgan Freeman) to build an ark but with Evan now in a position of power and with a family in a great home will he listen to the command from God or try to ignore him to carry on with his life he has created?

This film is simple and funny so if you go into it expecting something that can make you laugh based on situations rather than jokes this film can be enjoyed. The film has been put down by a lot of people but if you just go into it and base it on a stand alone film rather than compare it to Bruce Almighty then you can find something that works.

Love this film! Odered on recommendation from a friend. The overall message in the story is great and love the animals 'helping' to build the ark. Good all round family film,funny and includes messages about loving the planet, working together and believing in yourself. Also like the religious message which is there but not in your face, Morgan Freeman as God is brilliant. A congressman, Evan Baxter, getting a conscience is never a bad thing either. As I said love this film!
