An excellent, well-written, and comprehensive look at the new evangelization. Lots of good information, inspiration and formation! Indeed, a very useful manual for the new evangelization. --Ralph Martin, theologian, author, and president of Renewal Ministries
From the Inside Flap
"You can't keep the faith unless you give it away."
That's a fact. To be a Christian is to be an evangelizer. When the Catholic Church calls us to a "New Evangelization," that's simply a reminder us of what has always been true.
The good news is: you can do it - you can evangelize - and Scott Hahn shows you how.
In this this very practical "mission manual" Dr. Hahn equips you with: A guide to understanding what the New Evangelization is, and who it's really forA roadmap that leads you to where it all happens (hint: it's closer than you think)A simple, beautiful message to share - in words and actions
You don't need esoteric knowledge. You don't need to master a new set of skills. Evangelization, for Catholics, is simply friendship raised up to the highest level. Enter a deeper friendship with Christ, and you'll want to share his companionship more and more with a wider circle of friends.

The simple truth is Catholics are the worst at conveying their faith and cradle Catholics are the worst among these. They use terms like adore and venerate without realizing that non Catholics get their meanings reversed.
Hahn is correct in making his point that Catholics can and should be able to make that 'elevator pitch' as simply as Protestants do.
The problem at the end of this book is that it doesn't embolden and motivate readers to 'go forth & preach....' because that is exactly what God and the world needs right now. The early parts of the book does exactly that, but the end does not.
However, I still recommend the book because the first half of the book is so good at introducing very important concepts, and the last has splatterings of important aspects of the New Evangelism.
As Scott Hahn sees it we really have no choice in the matter. Christ has called each and every faithful Catholic not only to live an exemplary life but also to challenge or nudge those people in our lives who may have fallen away from the faith or perhaps do not know God at all. To be sure this New Evangelization is going to be a messy business and success is by no means guaranteed. Prominent Catholic author, theologian and teacher Scott Hahn offers a road map outlining how ordinary lay Catholics might become engaged in this highly important work in his brand new book "Evangelizing Catholics: A Mission Manual for the New Evangelization". Given the sad state of our world the timing of this book could not be better.
In "Evangelizing Catholics" Dr. Hahn points out that the overwhelming majority of faithful Catholics tend to shy away from discussing their faith not only in the public square but also on a personal level with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. We really do need to get past that. Many of our Protestant friends have no such inhibitions. Because we are so reluctant to stand up for our faith and profess what we believe in all too many of us have a difficult time expressing even the most basic tenets of our Catholic faith. Clearly, Catholicism is the answer to many of the world's most pressing problems and we desperately need many more courageous and informed Catholic voices putting forth the Catholic point of view. That in a nutshell is what the New Evangelization is all about. Now do not be surprised and do not become discouraged if you struggle with some of the theology in this book. I certainly did. This is to be expected if we intend to grow and become more informed Catholics who are able to explain what we believe to others. Practice makes perfect so it stands to reason that the more we are willing to speak up the better we will become at it.
Throughout the pages of "Evangelizing Catholics: A Mission Manual for the New Evangelization" Scott Hahn offers us myriad examples of opportunities to evangelize during the course of our daily lives. For example, the workplace can be a great opportunity to spread the Good News. As the author points out "We can offer those with whom we work a constant example of how faith transforms a life and sustains it even in the midst of sorrow and stress." Meanwhile, Catholic media in all of its forms offers a great chance to advance Catholic beliefs and values in the marketplace of ideas. I found "Evangelizing Catholics" to be a book well worth the time and effort. We Catholics need to learn the art of evangelization...be not afraid! There is lots of food for thought in this volume. Recommended.
