Update: now that we have a car under 10 years old, a pro tip for installing any car seat including this one…recline the seat slightly, install as tightly as possible, then set the seat recline to as straight as you need to lock the seat down. Presto, easy.
Okay. It does the job at the price point. It certainly seems safe, but I'm not going to go get in a crash to find out for sure!
I like the hanger for the manual. I also like that the neoprene skin comes out to clean, even if it takes some doing.
The negatives... The crotch buckle is totally unpadded. It's a pinch hazard. The neoprene black gets absurdly hot, even with legal-limit dark tint on the adjacent window.
Rear-facing, it's very long. It fit okay in a Honda CR-V and a Dodge Grand Caravan. It pushes the seat too far forward in a 2006 Sonata.
Forward-facing, the shoulder pads are rough on a passenger or child seat in an adjacent seat. Unless your seat is reclined pretty far, when your kid falls asleep, his head will fall forward, and he'll look quite uncomfortable in there.
Mounting in either position is not as easy as our Britax infant seat. The latch design is very cheap and makes the mounting process rather an ordeal. We don't much care for this seat and would recommend you find a different one if you can. For the price, though, this is an okay child seat.
