I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun read with lovely main characters and wonderfully eclectic secondary characters. I enjoyed the book so much that I bought the next one in the series.
The main characters were likeable and quite relatable. Willa, who is extremely intelligent, inherited a house from her aunt. The house is one of the few places she was allowed to act like a kid when she was little. Her aunt spent time with her and allowed her to be a 'normal child'. She moves into the house and meets her neighbor and her friends, who are incredibly fun and engaging characters. The only problem is that the house needs a lot of renovations.
Willa is a bit socially awkward because she is so intelligent. As her neighbor and her friends start to draw Willa out of her shell, she starts to become more comfortable on her own and around people. The neighbor and friends sign Willa (and her house) up to win an entire house renovation, the only problem is that it is part of a new reality TV show. When Willa first meets the two brothers that are hosting the show, she has an immediate connection to Joe.
There are complications I won't go into due to being spoilers, but as they progress through the story, it is fun to see Willa become more comfortable in her own skin and more comfortable around people. I dearly loved the neighbor - she was really funny and I can only hope i'm half as much fun when I get to her age.
Overall, a great story, I enjoyed the second book in the series as well. I will keep an eye out to see if the author writes more books in the series.
This is my first book by the author, but it wasn't my last (I immediately downloaded the second book!) I devoured this book because it has everything I like in a book... interesting and realistic characters, a solid storyline, and simmering sizzle!
The characters are first rate all around. Main characters are Willa and Joe, supported by Tony, the Gals (Collette and Audrey), and Julia. Willa was a child prodigy who never had a childhood. She lost her mother as a child and her father recently passed. She finds herself in Rhode Island when she inherited her aunt's cottage. The Gals are really New England characters: true blue, a bit crusty, "call 'em as the see 'em" with a heart of gold..... who want to see Willa settled and into an easier life than she had as a child. Joe and his brother have a construction business who take on a total renovation of Willa's cottage. Joe fights off deepening feelings for Willa as he wrestles with a fiancé (Julia) who can't wait to walk down the aisle.
The romance simmers, then sizzles. The storyline brings out Providence, drama amongst the characters, amid a lesson about being true to yourself for all of the characters. I immediately re-read the good parts and downloaded (and devoured) the second book!
I am anxiously awaiting book #3. This book should be on your TBR shelf .... or better yet, download immediately!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
After that a slowburn romance starts and I highly recommend to read and find out yourself, if Willa and Joe will find their happy end.
I was chosen to receive and ARC and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love Joe and how he handles everything when it comes to Julia and his loyalty. There was no cheating and he handled things as he should have.
Overall, very sweet read with a HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy via Hidden Gems.
