I was graciously gifted a copy of this book for an honest review and so today I read this story. The storyline itself to me was great and had so much potential and I liked it a lot but with that being said I feel I needed a little bit more on the actual building of their relationship. Now, I am definitely a fan of a good romance with a great story but with that also being said I do crave the sexy intimate scenes and this book didn't have much in it until almost the end.....and the small amount of sex that was in this book was definitely good but because it took awhile to get to "it", lol, it felt too rushed for me when it did happen!
This book was fast paced, quick and to the point, a great beach read, also great if you are sitting by the pool, just a great light, romantic and fun read. There was no drama, not much angst at all but the little bit I experienced through Willa actually had me choked up a bit. BOTH characters had great back stories, very sad BUT really great but I just wish I had gotten a little more into Joe's head because he was so darn intriguing in a very sexy and sweet way:) I also personally love a physical description of my characters and although I felt I could "see" Joe, I just needed a better feel for Willa, I just felt I couldn't get a good visual on her and yeah, I am vain like that, lolololol.... I just like to be able to "see" my H and h while reading if that makes sense, so I can connect better!! Up until 40% of the book, I found it a bit slow because for me I want details but I don't want to be bogged down with too many but once I hit the 40% mark in the story, it took off from there and kept my interest glued straight until the end. The setting up of this story was great because it left no stone unturned on how Willa got to where she was but at the same time I was anxious for the actual story to begin! With that being said, being from New England myself I truly did appreciate on one hand a lot of the details because they were so dead on, I could appreciate so much of them too. I actually felt like I was right there in the story along with everyone but again I am not one for too many details that don't pertain to the "romance" itself if that makes sense, although it was done extremely well. That's just me and my own personal preferences and some people may love that so again just my own thoughts.
The ending was great although very fast, too fast for me but again a great in between book when you may need a good mindless read with no drama and/or angst or any dark turns of events. I have to be honest, this story stayed in my mind all night in a very good way and I finished this book around 4PM and so I wanted to digest it more before I wrote my review and the storyline itself really stuck with me in the best way possible as well as the characters in which I really enjoyed.
I love a quick read but with that comes the storyline getting too condensed and because I truly loved the whole premise of this story (it was great) I wished that I got more of the main characters including Julia, if that makes sense. That part at the end with the ending of "one" thing and the "starting" of something new was too rushed for me and I would have liked to have seen that whole situation played out a bit more between Tony, Joe, Willa and Julia because it was that great of a "kink" in the story if you will, hehehehe:) It truly was a great storyline just for me I don't need so much of the minuscule details outside of the story itself.......
I am planning to start the next book in this series tomorrow because I am so intrigued to see where this story goes and of course, I want to get to "know" Julia and see what's going on in her head especially after this book:)
This was my first book by Sophia Renny and definitely not my last. I think Ms. Renny has great potential and a terrific gift for telling a story and I do look forward to following her work for sure in the future! Congrats to you Sophia Renny, keep up the good work:)
Willa is a genuinely shy lead character who finds social situations uncomfortable because she doesn't always know how to handle them or respond appropriately. For the first time in her life she has options and choices as to how her life progresses. Previously she has been under the thumb of a domineering father who guided and controlled his genius daughter. Her happiest memories are from her early childhood and many center around visiting her Great-Aunt in Rhode Island - the only time, following the death of her mother, when she was allowed to be a normal child.
Her aunt dies soon after her father, so Willa moves to the house she has inherited and is "adopted" by her aunt's crazy friends. They are determined to help Willa live her life to the fullest and break out of her shell. They nominate her for a TV home makeover show, and when she wins they encourage her to take a big leap into opening up to the cameras and the gorgeous contractor brothers. The friends definitely provide some great comic relief.
There is an instant attraction between Willa and Joe, one of the brothers; an attraction she has never experienced before. Joe feels it too but has his own issues based on years of putting his family and others first. As a result, we discover he isn't in a position to pursue a relationship with Willa.
I won't provide any spoilers on how things progress, but the author does a wonderful job of revealing two characters who have strong morals but feel intense emotional pain due to their feelings for each other. Angst is a word used a lot in romance reviews and many writers create angst through actions; Sophia Renny manages to convey a true emotional angst that feels genuine and unforced.
There isn't a lot of sex in this book, as it wouldn't fit with the characters' moral and emotional situation, however when it happens it's steamy and Joe is most definitely an Alpha male.
Overall a lovely romance and one that will have me reading more from this author.
