Sort of works... Sort of doesn't
on May 20, 2012
I have my PS3 (fat) in a cabinet. There's plenty of space around it, but it still gets hot and I have to leave the cabinet door open when playing or watching a movie. Even with it open, after a while the fan goes into "jet engine mode" and is super loud.
I bought this to try to avoid going into jet engine mode. I was hoping I could keep it cooler, or at least cool enough to quiet it down.
After running it for about a week under different conditions (playing, watching movies, streaming music) I find that, while it does blow additional air out of the PS3, it's not enough to stop "jet engine mode" from kicking in. Honestly, I actually thought it would push a lot more air than it does. It does blow air... But it's about as much as the existing PS3 fan.
I noticed another reviewer had a similar situation and required a second fan to blow the hot air away from the PS3. I will have to try that.
This fan has a nice form factor and was easy to install, so I give it two stars for that. I will keep it as a part in my overall cooling strategy... But I wish it could have just solved the problem.
