Details about Everlast PowerMIG 140E MIG welder 110v volts, Flux Core Capable
The economy line of inverter MIG welders from Everlast is not short on performance or capability. The all new Power i-MIG 140E is a 120V powerhouse. The IGBT inverter design puts out a higher amp output with a better duty cycle when compared to transformer based MIG welders. Compare the Power i-MIG 140E to the competition.
The competition features a transformer 140 amp MIG welder which typically has a 20% duty cycle at 90 amps, and a far less duty cycle at a maximum amps which is almost never published. The new Everlast Power i-MIG 140E comes with a 25% duty cycle at the rated maximum output of 140 Amps. And it can do it while operating more efficiently, at a lower amp draw. To complete the comparison, it is also lighter in weight and offers a smaller foot print without reducing the maximum diameter wire roll size (8"). Its size and weight allows you to pick up the unit and carry it right to where you need it without requiring a follow up visit to your chiropractor.

Now then why only 4 stars well that's easy for starters the ground clamp is complete garbage the clamp is made of cheap stamped steel that makes very minimal contact with the grounding surface and the spring isn't very strong on top of this the ground wire is also about 4 feet short of what it should be. To correct this I added 5 feet of 2 gauge speaker wire and changed the ground clamp out for a 300 amp magnetic clamp which is way more then this thing will ever put out.
The second reason is for a lack of a quick start guide on the door. For an entry level welder I feel this is 100% needed. After I unpacked and assembling the welder I spent the first hour or two finding settings for common sizes that I weld with and writing them on the door.
The last reason is for a lack of support. I have called the customer service number and asked about any references for setting to which they were no help. I had also registered for the forum. Keep in mind I registered for the former mid January and here I am a month later and my account still has not been approved. You can still browse the forum at which point I did find a IPM guide done by one of the forum members.
The welder comes with some poor accessories. The "mask" is a cheap piece of plastic and the wire brush/ slag hammer are junk. I would have taken 3 more inches of grounding wire over those accessories.
The welder does not come with any solid or Flux core wire whatsoever.
Now after these few negative comments I do still have to say they are only minor in comparison to the ability of this welder. The infinite adjustability on both wire feed speed and voltage for this cost is unheard of and you can really dial this thing in. And I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to a friend who is just getting into welding with the understanding of these shortcomings so they might be prepared to practice a little to find the right settings.
This is a very affordable entry into the 110v MIG marketplace and I'm very happy so far. I've run mostly 1/8" mild steel angle and tubing, but also some 20ga sheet metal as well. It's got plenty of power and control for the work I'm doing and I haven't had any issues with duty cycle.
In terms of build quality I'm impressed! Overall fit and finish is excellent, with everything fitting and working right out of the box. The plastic shield over the knobs turned out to be annoying for me so I removed it, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it. Solid metal drive rollers and wire feed mechanism are great, although it would have been nice to have a flux-core roller in the box (the included roller works for .030 and .023 solid wire). As an added bonus, this thing is easy to pick up and move around as I need to.
Yes, this little machine has limits. It's a 110v MIG, so expecting to do heavy production work just isn't realistic. Workign within it's abilities, though, it's an absolute champ that does what it says it should!
Overall, I'm happy to recommend this any time over other machines in it's class.
Lightweight. Easy to one hand, very portable.
