The contents of the book are great but I expected a normal sized 11 x 8 inch book.

This was a well done project, with a complete set of maps to the entire game up to that point in well designed format with background and setting information. Sadly, almost none of the actual content of each location is listed, which makes the maps of limited value to adventurers. Fuller data would have been worth another star.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!!! 10 STARS!!!!

Let me start by saying this is 574 pages. Wow. I didn't notice that when I went to purchase it.
And whats more, this is 574 pages of kickass flavor text.
I'm dead serious. And it is immersive as hell!
I would not say this is not a guidebook like its title implies. Instead, I would say this is a book of EverQuest Lore! 95% of this book is lore, with player guidance written in as if we were adventurers living in Norrath, and the other 5% is maps, plus small screenshots and illustrations decorating each page.
When I bought this based on recommendation by a reviewer of a different everquest book, I didn't know what to expect. I was hoping that maybe there would be 25% Lore and pictures mixed into an average gamers guide. HAHAHAHA no. The level of thought and world building that went into this game blows my mind over and over again. Novels don't even go this far! Every single place has an interesting story behind it! And this is the book that shares it all!
If you want inspiration, this book is a one-stop-shop.
If you want your imagination to run away with you, this book is the ticket that will send you on your way.
If you want to really taste Norrath the next time you load up EQ, this book will add another layer to your experiences.
There is nothing out there like EQ, and nothing out there like this Atlas*. (*As far as I know, lol) I can't wait for the day they remake it. (R.I.P. EverQuest Next )

This book covers the EQ golden age, from original release up to the Planes of Power, and breaks the locations of Norrath into groups, then lists them in alphabetical order.
Happily it keeps an air of mystery to Norrath, and keeps immersion intact by not listing any loot tables or walkthrough material. (It does plainly list the zone level range however.)

Every location provides the following:
A MAP of the area and a key labeling the major areas of interest

A brief BESTIARY- monster level & monster examples (this is not a conclusive list, nor do i believe it should be. its a hint of what to expect)

DANGERS - 2-3 paragraphs of lore regarding what hostiles live in the zone and why they are attacking, what factions they belong to. (Who wants to kill you, Why they are going to kill you, How they are going to kill you, Where they are going to kill you)

BENEFITS - 1-3 paragraphs talking about friendly npcs, merchants, adventuring, best potential loot drops, etc

BACKGROUND - usually 3+ paragraphs describing the area, who/what is in it, history

NOTABLE NPC's - usually 2+ paragraphs about who is usually the ruler/boss of the zone, why they are there, what they are doing, their history, their present state, etc.

I also picked up a copy of the 10th Anniversary EverQuest Collectors edition. That book is a gorgeous art-filled book all about the development of EQ as a game and intellectual property. While you're at it you should watch the documentary on EQ
Soon I will have the late Keith Parkinson's EverQuest prints up on my wall too! (He created the infamous box art for EQ and the expansion packs up to Planes of Power.)

Finally, I'd like to say:
I played World of Warcraft.
I traversed the Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim)
But I LIVED in EverQuest!

If you want to feel the world of EQ again without reinstalling the game, I recommend this book. And while you wait for it to arrive, you can read the amazing EverQuest Next short stories by Maxwell Alexander Drake .(He is awesome. I just ordered his book Dynamic Story Creation in Plain English and signed up for his newsletter on his website.). They were free on the EQNext website, but since that shut down, they are now available on fan sites. If you dont like reading, you can listen to them too! There are *extremely* high quality readings of 4 of them on YouTube by Edward LeCore. Google him. Your only regret will be that you didnt google him sooner lmfao.
