Bailey and Vaughn have had a love hate relationship since they first laid eyes on each other. They have one of those relationships where they want each other, but they don't want, to want each other. Until one night when Bailey is attacked in her inn and Vaughn comes to her rescue. And they can no longer pretend the attraction is not there. Where Bailey starts to see a happily ever after, Vaughn is caught up in his past, and the reason he can't commit to any relationship. Even one with Bailey.
There is a lot of yes we can, no we can't moments. They commit, they break up. Both are dealing with serious trust issues. Vaughn's comes from a past relationship that went horribly wrong. Bailey's I had a harder time with. Yes it was heartbreaking, but basing her future relationships on what happened when she was nineteen? It seemed a bit dramatic. Even she realizes how silly it is later in the book.
And it was more predictable than the first. When Vaughn's best friend, and Bailey's sister are introduced, it's fairly obvious where the story is going. But it was enjoyable getting there.
I'm not sure who's story will be next. The shy quiet bookstore owner Emery and the cheating Jack, or Dahlia and the mysterious married Michael, or maybe Bailey's bff from high school Ivy? Whichever it is I'm looking forward to reading it.
Their chemistry was bound to be explosive given the enemies-to-lovers element because they can hardly have a pleasant conversation without some kind of barb slung in between. I was engaged throughout the whole story, pleasantly surprised by the turn of events and how their relationship developed. It was unexpected, yet just right for them, and not to mention incredibly steamy with palpable emotion, too. Vaughn comes off as cold, but in fact, he's rather vulnerable on the inside, which further hardens up his exterior and refusal to share any sentiments. What I loved about him was once he figured out that he had a once in a lifetime opportunity for something amazing in front of him, Vaughn became very goal oriented and manned up to go after what he wanted. The other side storylines included really enhanced the story, not to mention added further curiosity about the additional characters whose stories will likely need to be told because I must know more about them, too.
I particularly loved the character development, perfect secondary characters' input, believable dialogue and banter, and of course, the delicious morsels of schmexy. The pacing was excellent and I was absorbed from start to finish. I'm so eager for more. It's a deep need to know Dahlia's and Emery's paths to love.
Samantha Young's writing never disappoints. Every Little Thing was a tale that invested my heart and soul.
