The woman (happily married with a loving husband and sweet toddler) simply abandons her husband (mystery 1), leaving behind a note in the trunk of their car. Then we discover that the wife never legally existed (mystery 2), that some other man and woman are seeking to protect her (mystery 3) while another group is seeking to hurt her (mystery 4). But is it her that they seek or someone else within her family (mystery 5)?
I always advise my writing students to multiply mysteries, whenever possible. Every Precious Thing could serve as a perfect exemplar in this regard. The canvas is smaller in Every Precious Thing (Logan and his posse's quest takes him to Arizona, the Grand Canyon, California border country, Riverside and the Simi Valley) but the book is longer, the cast of characters larger, the architectonics of the plot a tad smoother and more refined, the bad guys very bad indeed.
While Little Girl Gone was excellent, Every Precious Thing takes everything up a step or two. I look forward to Logan Harper's next outing.
Harper reluctantly agrees to find and talk to Sara. Although he originally suspects Sara ran away, the questions grow deeper at every turn. Then, when a sinister force seems to be after Sara as well, Harper commits to figuring out the mystery. In EVERY PRECIOUS THING, author Brett Battles has given his readers a sequel to the very successful Little Girl Gone (A Logan Harper Thriller).
EVERY PRECIOUS THING is a great continuation, and also stands on its own. The action is fast-paced. The characters are believable. The suspense builds to just the right point, until suddenly everything makes sense. For plot, characters, action, suspense, fast pace, intrigue and believability, I rate EVERY PRECIOUS THING with five stars, and I look forward to reading more books in this series. The Logan Harper character is strong enough and deep enough for many future episodes.
